President & Mrs. Bush
Encourage Adoption!
"The adoption of a boy or
a girl is a moment of joy for a family, and it's an act of great
generosity. When parents share their homes and all they have
with a child, the child they adopt and love as their own, all
their lives are transformed forever."
-- President George W. Bush
The President and First Lady have
promoted adoption and have passed legislation that encourages
both families and states to pursue adoption, including providing
increased funding and tax credits for those who do.

Bush is helping families welcome children into their homes through
adoption via the links below:

Promotion Act of 2003
Strong
Families, Safe Children
"For the sake of our children this nation has a responsibility
to encourage adoption of children at all ages, from infants
to adolescents."
-- President George W. Bush

A
Call to Action
We are hearing from more and more
birthmothers about the difficulties they encounter with birthfathers
when trying to make an adoption plan. Refusal to cooperate, followed
by refusal to support the child either financially or emotionally
after they are born, is never in the best interest of the child.

Father Registries and learn what you can do to help women
make the choice they are choosing for their child, adoption.

or special duty military:
If at least one
spouse in your family is currently being deployed in the service
of our country to aid in the fight against terrorism, Lifetime
is offering you the option of an extended contract freeze.
A contract freeze allows your family to put adoption your plans
on hold temporarily, to be resumed at a future date. There is
no charge for a contract freeze, nor is any contract time or money
lost.
If a contract freeze would help your family at this critical time,
please contact your Lifetime coordinator to discuss this option
for your contract. We would like to help in any way we can.
We appreciate your sacrifices. May God be with your family.

A
Big Leap in Adoption Tax Credits
You may be able to take a tax credit
of up to $10,160 for qualifying expenses paid to adopt an eligible
child (including a child with special needs). The adoption credit
is an amount subtracted directly from your tax liability.
The income limit on the adoption
credit or exclusion is based on your modified adjusted gross income
(modified AGI). If your modified AGI is $152,390 or less, the
income limit will not affect your credit or exclusion. If your
modified AGI is more than $152,390, your credit or exclusion will
be reduced. If your modified AGI is $192,390 or more, your credit
or exclusion will be eliminated.
The original legislation to increase
the tax credit was introduced in 1998 by former Speaker of the
US House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, himself an adopted
child. At the time, Executive Director of Hope for Children, Joe
Woods, concluded, "For middle-income families desiring to
adopt, the initial cost of adoption is the number one hurdle.
The tax credit often makes the difference."
The new Adoption Tax Credit was signed
into law on June 7, 2001, by President George W. Bush as part
of the Economic Growth and Relief Act of 2001.
