Mardie Caldwell Interview on The 700 Club

Recently, Lifetime Adoption Founder & CEO Mardie Caldwell was interviewed on CBN's The 700 Club Interactive. She spoke about her journey from infertility to adoption, and how adoption has touched her life through the adoption of her son.

Caldwell, a nationally recognized adoption expert, explains why open adoption is so important for all parties involved. Adoptees, adoptive parents, and birth mothers can all benefit from an open adoption plan. She shares some vital tips for those hoping to adopt a baby. Caldwell is the author of two recent books about adoption, one aimed at those hoping to adopt, and the other for women considering placing their child for adoption.

National Birthmother's Day

In 1990, a group of women gathered and decided to set aside the day before Mother's Day to honor mothers who choose to give their child life and provide them a family through adoption. This year, that special day is May 8, 2010.

At Lifetime, we recognize our birth mothers on this day; they are special to us. If you are an adoptive family, please consider recognizing your birthmother through a special note or by gifting her with an Adoption Promise Bracelet. Now through Wednesday, May 5, when you order two adoption prayer bracelets, you will receive a bonus "2 Hearts" bracelet. Unique and handmade, it features two silvertone interlocked hearts. Use coupon code "MOTHER" when ordering. Order today at AdoptionPrayerBracelet.com!

Island Women & Children Funds

Lifetime Foundation has started a specific fund to assist Bahamian families living on the outer islands. These communities often have little water or government assistance, few opportunities for special education, and a lack of employment opportunities. The results are often high rates of abuse, substance abuse, and poverty.

Recently a party of six volunteers visited one of these islands and provided assistance through:

  • Advocacy for governmental repair and refill of a water tank.
  • Direct donations of clothing, shoes, and personal care products.
  • Direct dontations of food
  • Educational and vocational training.
  • Services and assistance to special needs children.
  • Advocacy with medical and educational professionals to expand services available.
  • Hands on work to teach islanders how to do basic household repair and carpentry, such as chicken coops.
The needs there are great. Similarly, the costs to help these people is great. We hope to provide more training and educational opportunities as well as assistance for children with special needs and learning disabilities. The Bahamian people are eager to learn and so grateful for any help they receive. Please prayerfully consider donating to this special fund so that more blessings may be granted through the Lifetime Foundation. Visit LifetimeFoundation.org to donate.

Adoption Tax Credit Rises to $13,170

It is vital to determine qualifying adoption expensesParents who finalized an adoption last year may claim a maximum credit of $13,170 for adoption expenses on their federal income tax returns. The tax credit phases out for taxpayers with high modified adjusted gross incomes. Sadly, it may expire at the end of 2011. Proposals to make that benefit permanent have received much legislative support.

Qualifying expenses include necessary adoption fees, court costs, attorney fees, traveling expenses, and other expenses directly related to the adoption. Adoptive parents who plan to claim the credit should file Form 8839, titled Qualified Adoption Expenses, and attach it to Form 1040. For more information and other downloads to required forms, please visit the IRS website by clicking here.

Lifetime Adoption Sponsors Birthmother Program

BirthMom BudsFor the second year in a row,
Lifetime Adoption has sponsored the birthmother support organization BirthMom Buds annual event, Birthmother's Day.
Birthmother's day is a day to celebrate and honor birthmotherhood.  Its a day to reflect on the choice made and the life given.  Its a day to recognize, mothers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their children in placing them for adoption.

This year's event was titled "The Road Less Traveled" and was made possible by generous donors such as Lifetime.

Birthmother's Day is celebrated the Saturday before Mother's Day.  It originated in 1990 by a group of birthmothers in Seattle, Washington.  Most birthmothers will agree that Mother's Day is a very painful holiday and these women wanted to create something that would honor their birthmotherhood.

To find out how you can make a donation that will help birthmothers pay for college and higher education, visit www.LifetimeFoundation.org.

Lifetime's Founder Mardie Caldwell, COAP Appeared Live on the Today Show

In over 21 years of helping build thousands of families through adoption, Mardie Caldwell, COAP, has seen it all. She has, in fact, written two award-winning books on the subject and is the founder of one of the largest adoption centers in the country, Lifetime Adoption. Now she is sharing her expertise during a feature on America's #1 morning show, NBC's 'Today Show'.

Adoption is seeing a resurgence in this country, in fact 3 out of 5 people are touched by adoption. And while, in theory, the adoption process may seem fairly basic, families just starting to adopt face many decisions before they even begin. Add to that the seemingly endless river of paperwork and red tape, and it is easy to see why adoption experts like Caldwell are vital in ensuring adoption success.

Caldwell appeared on the Today Show in New York on Wednesday, May 9th, and discussed recent changes in adoption. You may view her appearance by clicking on the button below:

Caldwell currently hosts a weekly radio talk show, Let's Talk Adoption, which enables her to encourage and educate adoptive parents as well as others interested in adoption. Her first book, AdoptingOnline.com won the Benjamin Franklin Award from Publishers' Weekly, and her second Adoption: Your Step-by-Step Guide garnered various awards as well. Caldwell currently has three more books scheduled for release with her publisher, American Carriage House Publishing, all related to adoption.
