If so, you need to be prepared for a wide range of opinions and advice. This can make you feel even more anxious and confused.

You can call, text, or fill out our online form, and a coordinator will be ready to provide the support you need. If you like, she will put you in touch with a professional or peer counselor.

What is the Adoption Process in Arizona?

For over 30 years Lifetime Adoption has been guiding pregnant mothers in Arizona through the adoption process. Just call, text, or fill out our online form. A Lifetime Adoption coordinator will talk to you about what your wishes are and can provide you with any resources and support you need.

You can review adoptive family profilesand choose the family you think is right for your baby. You may want a family from Arizona or from another state. You can even choose how much contact you would like in the future with that family. Did you know adoption isn’t just for newborns? What if you have a toddler or older child you need to place for adoption? A coordinator can assist with the plan to make the adoption transition healthy for you, your child, and the adoptive family. Your coordinator will also help you work with the adoptive parents to create a post-adoption contact agreement that everyone feels is best.

Your adoption coordinator will also help you create a hospital plan. Your plan will outline who will be in the delivery room, who will hold the baby first, and other details. You will have an attorney, at no cost to you, who will make sure that your rights are protected and will take care of all the paperwork and court filings.

Open Adoption in Arizona

Most people don’t have a lot of information about modern, open adoption. They may not know that when you choose adoption today, you are the one to make all the decisions. For example, you choose who will adopt your baby. You can also choose how much contact you would like to have in the future. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will create a personalized adoption plan for you and your baby. She will get some information from you such as:

  • Would you like to view the adoptive parent’s profiles and choose the adoptive family or have a coordinator choose for you?
  • What kind of contact would you like with the family after the adoption is final?
  • How would you like things to go at the hospital during labor, delivery, and after?
  • Would you like the adoptive parents to go to prenatal doctor appointments with you?
  • Are you in need of help with pregnancy-related expenses?

If you don’t feel parenting your child is the right thing for you and your baby, there is no more loving and brave choice than placing your child for adoption. There is a loving family for every child and they are ready and excited to grow their family through adoption. Modern, open adoption, means not having to say goodbye to your child forever. You can receive pictures, updates, and even visits. Many of our birth mothers have great relationships with the adoptive families. Recently, one of our amazing birth mothers was getting married, and she asked if her daughter could be there. Not only was she there, but the adoptive parents were there as well, and the adoptive father even walked the bride down the aisle.

Help With Pregnancy Expenses and More

Eva contacted Lifetime and wanted to place her baby for adoption. She was homeless and decided she wanted a different life for her baby. She was worried about how to stay safe and pay for the extra expenses she now had. Her Lifetime Adoption coordinator explained that in the state of Arizona, pregnancy-related expenses can be covered by the adopting parents. The expenses include:

  • Temporary rent and living expenses of the expectant mother during pregnancy
  • Maternity-related medical and hospital costs
  • Peer and professional counseling fees
  • Attorney and legal fees
  • Travel costs, meals, and lodging when necessary for court appearances

Professional and peer counseling is an important resource provided by Lifetime Adoption at no cost to the birth parents. Once your application is reviewed and you are pre-approved, your adoption coordinator will contact you to explain the entire adoption process. The founder of Lifetime Adoption, Mardie Caldwell, C.O.A.P., created the Lifetime Adoption program full of education pieces and resources. She was one of the pioneers in adoption with a heavy focus on birthmother support. For over 30 years, the Lifetime program has been successfully matching birthmothers and adoptive families. Our caring and experienced coordinators will guide you through the program so that you have a successful adoption experience.

Adoption Laws in Arizona

Arizona adoption laws can seem overwhelming but don’t worry, your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will refer you to an Arizona adoption attorney who will help you navigate the legal process in Arizona.

In Arizona, the timeline for legal documentation for adoption are as follows:

  • In general, the expectant or birth mother signs papers terminating her parental rights 72 hours after the birth. A birth father may surrender his parental rights by signing a Waiver of Notice or Denial of Paternity at any time, before or after the child’s birth. The adoption is irrevocable upon signing.
  • In addition, a home study is required and a judge will review the home study and other documentation and then finalize the adoption by issuing a final decree of adoption.

Every adoption is unique. There are different legal requirements depending on the individual facts of each adoption. Your adoption attorney will ensure your adoption goes smoothly and all legal aspects are in place.

Arizona Home Studies

A home study is a required, legal document that confirms your ability to parent and care for a child in an adoption situation. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will refer you to a qualified home study provider in Arizona.

With a home study, be prepared to provide the following:

  • Background checks
  • Medical reports
  • Employment verification
  • References
  • Financial verification
  • Visit of the home

Be prepared for every member of the household to be interviewed during your home study visit. You will also provide background information along with information regarding your family and marital relationships. Your provider will also ask why you want to adopt, what your parenting style is, your education level, and more.

Whether you are hoping to adopt or are a parent considering placing your child for adoption, Lifetime Adoption looks forward to working with you and providing the information and support you need for successful adoption.
