Pregnant woman looks at hopeful adoptive couples onlineIf you’re pregnant and not ready to become a mom but want to be sure that your child has every chance at a wonderful and happy life, adoption may be best. One of the first steps with making an adoption plan is looking for adoptive parents for your baby that are the type of family you’d like for your child.

You might be wondering ‘just how exactly do I find the right adoptive parents?’  Today, Lifetime’s giving you tips on how to choose the right adoptive parents; ones who fit your dreams for your baby’s future!

When you’re choosing adoptive parents, there are lots of factors to consider. For example, occupations, religious beliefs, other children, and if one spouse will be a stay-at-home parent. The bigger the selection of adoptive couples you have to pick from, the better the odds that you’ll find the perfect match for you and your baby.

Lifetime Adoption has a nationwide listing of couples hoping to adopt, and more are added all the time. You can learn more about these couples by reading their adoption websites, checking out their photos, and watching their adoption video. If you see a few families that seem like what you’re looking for, your Adoption Coordinator can mail you more info on them. This info will come in a plain package which doesn’t say adoption on the outside. So, if you’re keeping your adoption plan confidential, it can stay that way.

Some birth mothers worry that the adoptive parents won’t love their child as much as they do, or whether their child will be safe with the adoptive couple. Know that in order to be eligible to adopt, hopeful couples go through an intense screening process called a home study. The home study includes background checks, financial review, medical exam, interviews, and references.

Sometimes, placing your baby with an adoptive family is the best way to give your child the kind of future you envision for them. It’s never too late (or too early!) in your pregnancy to start looking for adoptive parents for your baby! If you’re thinking about adoption for your baby, a good place to start is to check out this list of common questions. There are questions that women often ask us about how to choose an adoptive family, how open adoption works, and how Lifetime can help.
