woman walking on sidewalkLifetime Adoption truly cares about every birth mother we help, and develop a relationship with many of them. Over the years, birth mothers have emailed us updates on how they’re doing now. Many of these women want to share their stories with you, hoping that they can help someone who is struggling with the adoption decision.

Today, we’re sharing Madison’s adoption story. If you’re thinking about adoption, you might find birth mother stories like Madison’s helpful as you make your decision because they come from women like you.

“When I was 16 years old, almost 17, I met a guy from church and we started talking. He wasn’t too active at church and was friends with a rough crowd. We started hanging out and getting to know each other and then started dating. I went behind my parent’s back because I knew that they wouldn’t like him at all.

I was at a very low point in my life. He came in when I was most vulnerable. He got me to do things that I thought I would never do. I didn’t care what my family or friends thought. I wanted to be with him and no one could stop me.

After being with him for awhile I ended up getting pregnant, right after my junior year of high school. I had taken a couple of pregnancy tests and they said I wasn’t pregnant. But a few weeks later, I took another one and it came out positive. So, a couple days later I went with some friends to Planned Parenthood to take a free test just to make sure. Sure enough, I was six weeks along. My boyfriend wasn’t around when I found out, so I told my parents by myself.

When I told my parents I was pregnant, they were both very disappointed and hurt. But somehow, they knew everything would be OK. I went to a pregnancy resource center with my mom so we could learn about my options. At first, I was stubborn and didn’t want to place my daughter for adoption. I couldn’t see that as an option. After time went by, I opened my heart and decided that adoption would be the best thing for her.

My Adoption Coordinator at Lifetime sent me some profiles about adoptive couples. I found the perfect couple and took things from there. When I had the baby, I cherished my time alone with her more than anything in the world.  She’s now a happy and healthy one year old.

Now, I’m in college and most people don’t know what I went through. I’ve told my roommates and a few close friends about the adoption, and they’ve been awesome and so supportive. I know now that adopting out my baby was the right thing to do. She’s so happy and so loved by so many people. I’m so happy I can see her grow and hear how she’s doing through updates and pictures. She has changed my life and made me a better person.

My education means so much to me. I want to be able to become a social worker, so I can help other girls who find themselves pregnant. I’m getting an education because I want my little girl to look up to me and have her see that I got my education and she can too. My dad did not go to college and watching him struggle to find a job has given me more motivation to get my education. I know what it’s like to struggle and go through hard things. I know how important it is to get an education to progress in life.

I want to get my education so I can help girls and share with them my experiences that I have gone through. Hopefully, this will help them make the best decision for their baby and themselves.”
