Other Paths to Adoption in Modesto
One other option is relative or kinship adoption. You may have a family member who is generally blood-related to the child and is interested in adopting. Your relative can apply to adopt your baby. It is important to know that this type of adoption can come with its own set of issues. While it can be a great solution, you want to be sure the relative knows they are not just helping out, and that adoption is permanent. They will be financially and emotionally responsible for raising this child to adulthood.
Which adoption option is best for you and for your baby is completely up to you. Speak with a Lifetime Adoption coordinator. She will go over all of these adoption options with you. Together, you can choose the right path for you and your child.

Home Study Services in Modesto
So, what does a home study include? Background checks, financial verification, employment information, education hours, and a home visit will all be parts of your home study. It may seem like a lot, but your adoption coordinator will guide you through the process.
How does the home study process work in Modesto? You will be asked to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check and to gather the following documents.
- Financial and Employment Statements such as paystubs, profit, and loss statements if self-employed and tax returns.
- Verification of marital status whether, single, married, or divorced
- Medical Statements from your doctors verifying your mental and physical and well-being and attesting to the fact that every adult living in the home is free from tuberculosis
- Three written references are needed attesting to the couple being suitable to adopt a child
A home study provider will gather all your information and will set up a time for a home visit. The home visit is meant to ensure you have a safe and adequate home to bring a child home to. The home study provider will ask about your views on parenting, family, and marriage. The provider will interview everyone who lives in the home and will then compile all of this information into a report.
Finalization of Adoption at Court in Modesto
Finalization in court is your final step in the adoption process.
In California, in general, the finalization of adoption happens no less than six months from when you take the baby into your care. Your home study social worker will conduct one interview with you in your home and then an additional three visits within a six-month period.
All required paperwork will be filed with the courthouse by your adoption attorney, and a hearing date will be set with the judge. In the Modesto area, that will be at the Stanislaus County Superior Court. For this hearing, the judge will review all documents, including your home study, and once complete, will issue the final decree of adoption. This will be a joyous occasion, so be ready to take some great pictures for your album and celebrate. Your adoption will now be final.
Other Paths to Adoption
There is more than one path to adoption. While Lifetime specializes in domestic adoption, some families consider international adoption. They may feel called to help a child that is in need in another country.
There are big differences between international adoption and domestic adoption. You will find a difference in timing and cost as well as other differences. In international adoption, there are different factors to consider, such as, what is the political climate of the country? What are the country’s laws and requirements? Those factors and many others will have an impact on a family’s choice of adoption path.
It is very important to work with an agency that specializes in international adoption if you choose that path. Be sure they work in the country you are interested in and have a proven track record of successful adoptions in that country. Some countries you may consider are in Eastern Europe and the nations of Africa and China. Here are some agencies that specialize in international adoption:
Foster Care Adoption
“Adoptive parents should be flexible, patient, loving, caring, committed, and capable of dealing with changes in their expectations and lifestyles.
Successful families have the ability to:
- Make a commitment
- Help children rebuild self-esteem and confidence
- Communicate openly
- Work effectively with social workers and service providers
- Set realistic expectations
- Accept the concept of the biological parent
- Offer stability
- Learn new problem-solving skills
- Commit to using discipline other than physical punishment
- Use community resources and support systems
- All families considering adoption must first become licensed foster parents.
The requirements for licensing consist of the prospective parents attending an orientation, a nine-week training class, completing First Aid/CPR, and a home evaluation. Please refer to the licensing portion of the CSA main page.
After the family has completed the requirements for licensing, the family is assigned an adoption worker who will assist the family in completing the necessary forms and the home study process.”
You can also view other children waiting in the foster care system on the website AdoptUSKids. You will be able to view children across the nation who are looking for families to adopt them.
