Yuba-Sutter Adoption Counseling
Peer counseling is a popular resource at Lifetime. Connecting with another woman who has been in the same place as you and gone through the adoption process can be helpful to talk to. She can answer your questions and share what adoption was like for her. Her story may be a little different, but a peer counselor will understand how you are feeling and the emotions and questions you may have. She can share how she told her family, how she discussed adoption with the birth father and many other bits of advice.

Relative or kinship adoption is another option you might have. With this option, a family member who is usually blood-related to the child can apply to adopt your baby. This type of adoption comes with its own challenges. While it can be a great solution, the adopting relative may feel they are just helping out and not realize this is a permanent thing, or there may be some issues with boundaries that will need to be worked through.

Home Study Services in Yuba-Sutter
Background checks, financial verification, employment information, education hours, and a home visit are all part of the home study. Your Lifetime coordinator will help you to complete the home study in a timely manner.
How does the home study process work in the Yuba Sutter area? First, you will submit fingerprints for a criminal background check. Next, you will need to gather the following documents.
- Financial and Employment Statements such as paystubs and tax returns.
- Medical Statement from your medical professional attesting to your physical and mental well-being and that every adult living in the home is free from tuberculosis
- Three written references from attesting to the couple being suitable adoptive parents
- Verification of marital status
You will then set up a time for a home visit. This visit will be to ensure you have a safe and adequate home to raise a child in and to find out what your views are regarding marriage, parenting, and family. Your home study social worker will interview everyone in the home and compile all of this information into a report.
Finalization of Adoption at Court
Now you have a completed home study, you have matched with a birth mother, and your baby has arrived. Your exciting final step will be the finalization of your adoption.
In general, California mandates that the finalization will be no less than six months when you take the baby into your care. You will have one interview from your home study social worker in your home and then three additional visits within the six-month period.
In addition, your adoption attorney will file all necessary paperwork at the courthouse and set a hearing date. In the Yuba-Sutter area, that will be at the Sutter County Superior Courthouse at 1175 Civic Center Blvd., in Sutter County and Superior Court of California, County of Yuba, 215 5th St, Marysville, CA 95901, in Yuba County. At this point, there will be a hearing where the judge will review your home study and all documents and issue the final decree of adoption. This will be a very joyous occasion, so be ready to take pics and shed a few happy tears. Now your adoption will be final.
Other Paths to Adoption
Choosing your path to adopt is one of your most important decisions. Wanting to help a child that is in need leads some families to consider international adoption.
International adoption will lead to other choices. One of those choices is which country you want to adopt from. The political climate, where children are in need, and many other factors will influence a family’s decision regarding which country to pursue. Each country has its own specific laws and requirements.
It will be important to work with an agency that specializes in international adoption and works in the country you are interested in. Some of the most popular countries are in the nations of Africa, China, and Eastern European countries. Here are some agencies that specialize in international adoption:
