We are so grateful for you considering us as your child’s adoptive family. Our home is full of joy, laughter, music, and serenity, and we are ready to share this through an open adoption with you if that is your preference. We love filling our home with music (be it Alex playing his piano or Aryn singing), watching our favorite football and basketball teams, taking beautiful photos of sunsets on our beach, and feeding and nurturing all the wildlife around our home.
This adventure is one of the greatest of our lives, and we are excited for you to be part of it! Thank you for considering us.
We met in January 2008 when Alex was a new physician, and Aryn was beginning her Ph.D. program. After moving several times for training and jobs, we married in Fall of 2014. Alex is an ophthalmologist at a private practice, and Aryn is a professor at a large university. We love spending time at home on the lake and outside, trying new restaurants, going places we have never been before, and cheering loudly at sporting events. Every few years, we try to take a vacation to visit family in Greece. We cannot wait to share our calm, peaceful lakeside home, fun Greek and Portuguese family traditions, and love for animals and music with your child!
About Alex (Written by Aryn)
Alex is one of the most influential people in my life. He is brilliant, ambitious, and has integrity. He is also gentle, kind, and loves to laugh. Alex is grounded and worldly at the same time and never pretentious. He is intelligent and talented while also being incredibly humble. He never ceases to amaze me with his interest in everything around the world and his sense of adventure. His respect and warmth for his parents, other family members, friends, patients, and even perfect strangers is genuine. He enjoys spending time in our music room, playing the piano, watching his favorite sports team play, taking pictures outdoors, and flying his drone over the lake. Alex is looking forward to sharing his passion for all things music, Ohio sports, Greek food, and Greek culture with our child.
About Aryn (Written by Alex)
Aryn is one of the most charismatic, energetic, and fun-loving people I know! She is the best cheerleader and mentor a friend or student could ever want. She is exceptionally loyal, compassionate, entertaining, hilarious, and always ready for a good time. Her capacity to love and care for others, mentor her students, and give everything she has to lift people up is unparalleled. She loves to sing in our music room, find new and creative ways to decorate or improve our home, float on the lake, and watch sports! Aryn is looking forward to sharing her love of all animals, creatures, and wildlife in and around the home, Ohio sports, and fun family get-togethers with our future child.
We are very close with our family. Alex’s parents, immigrants from Greece, live nearby and we see them weekly for family lunches/dinners. Alex’s extended family lives in Greece, and we try to visit them every few years. Aryn’s mother lives only 10 minutes away, and we see her a few times a week and spend time watching sporting events, cooking, exercising, and eating at restaurants together. Aryn’s sister and her family live approximately four hours away, and we see them once every few months. We love spending time with her, our brother-in-law, and two nephews. One of our favorite activities is to plan a fun-filled visit full of family games, zoo/aquarium visits, outdoor activities, and more whenever we all get together. Aryn’s extended family lives in New York, New Jersey, and California. We spend holidays with both families, making sure to include all of our family traditions.
Our Home in Ohio
Our home is our vacation spot! It is a big slice of heaven right on a lake near where both of us were born and raised. There are three levels of beautiful views, including the outdoor gazebo (i.e., the “she shed”). The basement is our sports-watching and music emporium, with a room containing thousands of vinyl records. Our neighbors are incredibly kind, and we all look out for each other in this small community. The most relaxing sounds we hear daily are the waves and wildlife on the lake and watching all the beautiful sunsets from mid-March through October. We hope our neighbors, friends, family, and future children can all relax and “go on vacation” when here.
Thank you for reading about us! As parents, we promise to be hands-on, provide your child with a safe, loving home, and raise them to the best of our abilities. We promise to share our family’s love of music, food, traditions, and sports with them. We will give him or her a life full of love, the best education, and opportunities for them to reach their dreams. We are a loving couple that places our faith in the center of our lives and enjoys life to the fullest with lots of laughter and time with family and friends. We are excited to share this all with your child and look forward to keeping in touch with you at your comfort level.

More About Our Family
We have three female cats. Zulu Zydeco (ZZ), a Siberian, is 7 years old (and also won an award in 2017 for being the city’s cutest cat!). Abita is the younger Siberian and is 6 years old. Orleans, the Domestic Short-Hair, is 2 years old, and was a stray that Aryn found (of course!). All three cats are playful and friendly and good with children and strangers. We have other "unofficial" pets, as we live on a lake with lots of wildlife - ducks, geese, squirrels, and birds - to name a few!
Aryn was born and raised in the Roman Catholic faith and was very involved in the church growing up. Alex was born and raised in the Greek Orthodox faith and was also very involved in the church growing up. After marrying Alex, Aryn decided to convert to Greek Orthodox Christianity. They plan on raising their children in the Greek Orthodox faith and look forward to engaging them in church activities, services, and celebrations as a family.
We stay in touch with our high school and college friends, and many live near us so we see them often. Many of Aryn’s own Doctoral students are now her close friends, even maintaining those friendships as they return to their home countries worldwide. Alex has a small group of close friends from high school and others from his days playing in local rock bands.
What Adoption Means to Us
Adoption has always been at the forefront of our minds. After attempting IVF to freeze some embryos the fertility clinic had a freezer malfunction and lost our embryos. Although we were heartbroken, this solidified God’s plan for us - adoption.
We both have close family and friends who are adopted or who have had positive adoption experiences. They have been extremely supportive and look forward to spending time with our growing family.
We hope that learning about us helps to put your mind at ease when deciding on your child’s future. We are so excited for the opportunity to be parents and are open to children of all backgrounds. We are also open to any level of contact with which you are comfortable. We look forward to sharing our rich cultural traditions, eclectic social circle, and loving immediate and extended family. There's never a dull moment in our home, with an abundance of love to give and wonderful parents, family, and friends ecstatic to meet your child and be an active part of our life.
