Watch Our Video

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We are a young, Christian family of three and are excited to continue growing our family. We have been married for over eleven years, since college. We have lived around the world (Germany and Japan), and we adopted our son, Johann, from South Korea. Michael is a university professor, and Angie worked as an elementary school teacher before becoming a stay-at-home mom, so education is important to us. We love spending time together reading, playing games, and making music.

About Us

We met at church while we both were students. After working together during a volunteer event trip, we became close friends, started dating, and we’ve been together ever since! We’ve always known that adoption was going to be a part of our family story, and we were blessed to adopt our son in 2020. We are excited to grow our family through adoption and Johann is excited to be a big brother.

If you stop by our home of an evening you will usually find us reading together, making music together around the piano or organ, playing board games together, praying and having family devotions together. These activities reflect the values that we hope to pass on to all of our children: a love of learning, a love of music, shared family fun, and a strong faith.

About Angela

Angie is a kind, nurturing, and deeply empathetic woman. She has worked with children most of her adult life, but she always wanted to be a mother to a large family. I like to say that she is a “heart with feet, “and is overflowing with love for everyone around. As a parent, she uses all of her skills to provide a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment for our family.

Angie makes our home a wonderful place. She’s an excellent cook, and I often come home to the smell of freshly baked cookies or her latest venture into French cooking. Angie is highly educated, including advanced degrees in education and theology. She also has a beautiful singing voice, and we enjoy making music together.

About Michael

Michael is an amazing husband and father. He has the unique combination of a sharp inquisitive mind, as well as child-like curiosity. Michael uses his inquisitive and curious nature not only in his job as a chemistry professor, but also as a husband and father.

Michael is a gifted musician who can play several instruments. When it comes to family time, Michael enjoys playing board games, reading or listening to stories, going for walks, hiking, or playing the piano while Angie sings. Michael is also a dedicated spiritual leader for our family, leading family devotions every night as well as modeling active involvement in our church.

Our Son

We adopted our son, Johann, from South Korea, when he was 20 months old. Johann is now over 3 years old and excited to be a big brother. We enjoy playing with Legos, Playdough, and Magna-Tiles together. We also have fun reading stories, baking, and singing together, including making up new songs about what we’re seeing or doing.

Johann is creative, orderly, and sweet. He loves doing things to help people, he really enjoys cleaning, and he loves building things. He will be a kind and helpful brother, singing naptime songs and showing off his newest creations. We’re excited to adopt again!

Our Home in Virginia

We live in a lovely, suburban, four-bedroom colonial-style home. The main floor is an open floor plan with a large kitchen, dining area, library/playroom, and living room. It’s a wonderful, cozy space for friends and family to curl up with a good book, play, bake, make music together, or just sit and chat. There’s also a great rec room in the basement with a TV and lots of board games. A cozy nursery is all ready and waiting to be enjoyed. We like living in this mountainous area that has plenty of great hiking and all four seasons are beautiful!

Our Promise

We promise to be there to guide your baby through all of life’s ups and downs. We promise to help them grow in confidence and ability, and to have a growth mindset to help them resiliently face whatever life hands them. We promise to instill in them a love of God, music, literature, adventure, and good times with family. Finally, we promise to love them always, no matter what. We are open to sharing with you pictures, email updates, texts and annual visits, if you’d like ongoing contact.

We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. To learn more about us, please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family

Our Special Interests

We enjoy traveling and learning languages. Encountering other cultures is very interesting to us and we love immersing ourselves in the food, language, music, and customs of the various countries that we have lived in and visited.

We also love books and reading. Whenever we go to a book sale we say that we'll only buy a few books, but then we come home with far more than we planned. Our home library is well stocked.

Our Faith

We are Orthodox Christians. This means that we have a great respect for church history and the traditions handed down throughout the centuries. Ours is a very practical faith, meaning that we believe we are called by Christ to live out our faith by serving those around us. We try to do this by serving in various capacities in our church, volunteering at a homeless shelter or backpack program, and cultivating a spirit of humility with all whom we meet.

Our Musical Interest

We both love music and have studied music in various capacities. Michael plays many instruments (piano, pipe organ, carillon, trumpet, and violin) while Angie sings and plays piano. We love classical music (of the Baroque and Romantic eras), Celtic music, jazz, and musical theatre.

Family Traditions

We really enjoy hosting family and friends for Thanksgiving! For Christmas, we have a Christmas cookie baking extravaganza and give plates of goodies to friends and family. Half-birthday celebrations are important to Michael: We eat half of a cake and the person gets to choose a fun activity for the evening. We also enjoy "Taco Sunday," which started when we lived in California.

In Closing

We are honored that you stopped by to learn more about us! We are excited to build our family further and to share our love of music, travel, learning, but most importantly our love of God. We promise to be the steady force that our children can always turn to, to help guide them, and to love them always. No matter what. We are open to texts, email updates, and possibly and annual visit.
