Unplanned Pregnancy Statistic on Marriage
You’ll have to decide if you are willing to live in a marriage that is unstable to begin with. The odds are against you because you would be marrying for the wrong reason.
Raising a child in a loving and secure home is the best option for any child. An adoptive family can provide for and give your child a good role model of what a healthy marriage and family are all about. This provides a child with a healthy self-image, and they are raised knowing you cared enough to want the very best life for them.
If you are getting married because you are pregnant, the unplanned pregnancy statistic shows you will be starting out with a greater chance of failure than in a relationship that has had time to develop naturally over time. Statistics suggest that marriages resulting from unplanned pregnancy have a 90% divorce rate within six years of getting married.
Don’t Become Another Unplanned Pregnancy Statistic
The decision to marry should be because you both are mature and want to marry. The time must be right when you’re with a man that is responsible and ready to settle down and provide for his family. You must ask yourself if you see your boyfriend as a good role model for your child.
Think about what kind of life you want for your child. Are you ready and able to provide a safe and stable home life? And is your boyfriend?
If you both are not equally ready to make the needed sacrifices to provide a secure family life for your child, it is wise to consider adoption. Before you become just another unplanned pregnancy statistic, take some time to consider your options.
Here are some questions to ask yourself as you think about what to do:
- Does my baby’s father have his own place to live that’s separate from friends and family?
- How long does he stay at the same job?
- Is he good at saving money, or does he live paycheck to paycheck?
- Does he pay his bills on time?
- How does he make me feel about myself?
- Did he graduate from college or have skilled job training?
- How does he treat me?
- Is he someone I can always count on?
- Can I see myself married to him for the rest of my life?
- Would I get married to him right now even if I wasn’t pregnant?
Allow yourself time to decide what you want out of your life before adding the commitment of parenting. Don’t sacrifice your child’s life if you and the father are not ready to make a child your first priority.
