Hi! We are Dereck and Sarah!
We live in Indiana with our two dogs, and we are SO incredibly excited to start our family through adoption! We cannot wait to share our beautiful life with you and your child. Everything we do and who we are is completely centered around the one that gave it to us in the first place, God. Our faith in the Lord is the most crucial part of us and we are praising Him for the opportunity we have to even be sharing this with you now. We love to have fun and be adventurous, and we can’t wait to share that with our child! We would love to keep in touch with you, if you would like.
A Little About Us
We met the first day in our freshman year of college. After becoming instant best friends, we began dating and within that next year we were engaged. This year will be our 12th year married. We are so blessed! We have desired to be parents for so long, and we now know that this is the time God has called us to start our family through adoption, and we couldn’t be more excited!
Things we love to do together include…
- Getting outside and walking the dogs
- Strapping the kayaks to our car and heading out to our favorite beach spot to explore!
- Cooking
- Heading to the beach to swim and read
- Watching movies
- Traveling to new places
- Trying new foods from different cultures
- Serving in different church ministries
About Dereck (By Sarah)
Dereck is one of the strongest and most loving individuals I have ever known. He is incredibly hard-working and does not do anything half-heartedly. He feels and cares so deeply about those who he loves and strives to make everyone around him better. Dereck has a passion for serving others and has the most helpful spirit. Dereck is looking forward to helping our child grow and sharing his love of adventure with them. He is also looking forward to guiding our child in their relationship with Christ and making the small moments count!
Dereck is a leader. He is resilient and leads our family so well. Dereck puts God first, his family second, and himself third. I have never felt more loved or cared for by another person, other than maybe my own parents, in my entire life.
Fun Facts about Dereck:
- Dereck has a twin sister!
- His first time on a plane was our honeymoon, and now after being married to me, he is on them all the time! Ha!
- Dereck LOVES kayaking

- He can fix pretty much anything

About Sarah (By Dereck)
Sarah is truly one of the most loyal, loving and genuine people you will ever meet. Sarah looks forward to teaching our child to love and serve others, no matter where they come from or what language they speak, and being there for the accomplishments and achievements, while also comforting our child in the heartaches and let downs. She also looks forward to taking them on new adventures, encouraging them to try new things and stepping out of their comfort zone! I truly cannot wait to see her dream of becoming a mom come true!
Some of my favorite things about Sarah:
- Her love for Jesus! Sarah is consistently pursuing to walk with Jesus and grow her relationship with God.
- She’s a genuine listener. Sarah is a great listener and is very soft spoken and has a humble spirit.
- She’s adventurous. Sarah enjoys experiencing new places, cultures, and foods. She is a strong independent woman and isn’t afraid to step outside of her comfort zone.

Our Home in Indiana
We live with our two dogs in a 3 bedroom/3 bathroom ranch-style home in a quiet neighborhood. We just bought our house back in July and we are so excited to have half an acre of land with a big front and backyard! Our neighborhood is down the road from our church, the biggest family-friendly park in our area, and with tons of area to walk, ride bikes, and play. Our newest addition to our home is a porch swing that was Sarah’s great great grandmother’s from their family farm! We love hosting our family and friends over, having cook-outs, and enjoying our new space!
Our Sweet Family and Friends
Family and friends mean everything to us! Our families are one of our biggest support systems. We both are very blessed to have wonderful, loving families who fully support our marriage and our decision to adopt. Both of our sets of parents have/had beautiful, godly marriages and we look up to them so much.
Dereck is one of five children and has a twin sister! We love that Dereck is a twin; it’s so special. We are blessed with 6 nieces and nephews that keep us busy. Sarah has one younger sister, and they are only 16 months apart. We love having family time and enjoy dinner, movie nights, birthday celebrations, and family vacations! We have wonderful relationships with our siblings and parents. We are lucky to have all of them living close by us in Kentucky.
Where would we be without our wonderful friends? We see them as much as we can, and they are always there when we need them.

More About Our Family
Our Faith
Our faith is the most important aspect of our lives. Without God, we wouldn't be here. We strive to serve Him every day with the way we treat/serve others, the way we handle our marriage and our finances, the way we approach work, and the way in which we are wanting to parent. It is the love of God and His faithfulness that has led us here to Lifetime, and we are so incredibly humbled and blessed to be sharing a glimpse into our faith with you.
We look forward to loving our new child with the love of the Lord and bringing them up in a faith-based home! What an honor that will be!
A Love For Diversity
Throughout our 11 years of marriage, we have devoted ourselves to a love of diversity. Our love for all people, no matter what race, ethnicity, or cultural background, was instilled in both of us from the start of our lives. A love for mission work, cultures, and languages sparked Sarah's love of teaching English to international students. Some of our closest friends are people from other cultures, backgrounds, and are speakers of other languages. It is our desire to also instill this same love of people who come from different backgrounds and walks of life into our child!
Back in late 2019, we hosted a Foreign Exchange Student from Beijing, China who would end up living with us for a little over a year. Being "new parents" to a 17-year-old Chinese boy was quite the challenge at first, but God gave us everything we needed to be there for him while he was finishing his studies abroad. We still to this day consider him a member of our family and we are still in contact with him.
Adventure Time!
We love to travel and experience new things! We are always looking for new, exciting, and adventurous ways to spend time with each other, family, or our friends. We are hoping sometime soon to explore more outside of the United States.
Some of our favorite adventures:
- Snorkeling in the Bahamas on the island of Exuma
- SkyDeck from Willis Tower in Chicago
- Exploring underwater caves in Mexico
- Jet skiing in the Pacific Ocean
- Taking two different cruises through the Caribbean
- Kayaking with manatees in the Gulf of Mexico
Our Dogs!
We have two wonderful dogs that we absolutely love to take care of!
-Taz (named after the Tasmanian Devil from the Bugs Bunny cartoons!) He is a 12 year old Pomeranian that we have had since before we were married! He is the most fun, energetic and loving dog! He is loving with small children, and is around them all the time as we have many nieces and nephews as well as all of our friends with young/small children.
Daisy- Daisy is our beautiful Golden Retriever! She is a big 5 year-old baby! Daisy is the most gentle, loving, caring dog you will ever meet. She is calm around children of all ages, and everyone who meets her wants to take her home with them! :) We are so lucky to have this baby girl in our home!
