Hello from North Carolina!
We’re So Mi, Dwayne, and Grayson—a family that likes to have fun, adventure, laugh, and spend time together. Our home is in a neighborhood filled with families and kids, and we cherish moments like bike rides, trips to the playground, and evenings of playing or reading stories. We have built a life grounded in love, faith, and community. Adopting is a dream close to our hearts, and we’re so excited to welcome a child to love, to share family traditions like our annual beach trips, and to build memories in all the little things we do every day.
We hope to get to know you and learn what’s most important to you for your child. If you feel comfortable, we would be honored to connect, listen, and support you on this journey.
About Us
We have been friends since college and started dating after we graduated. We will be married for 17 years this year. We lived where we went to college for many years before we relocated to North Carolina for Dwayne’s job. There are so many beautiful places in NC that we look forward to exploring together as a family.
We really enjoy exploring new cities, restaurants/food, parks, riding our bikes, and attending local festivals/community events. We are within driving distance to the beach and the mountains, which makes long weekend trips easy to do.
We’ve always hoped to adopt when we were ready to have kids. Our son was born 6 years ago and now we are excited to grow our family through adoption.
About So Mi
I work part-time for our church to welcome first-time families and help kids transition into the children’s program. It brings me so much joy to meet new families and kids and making them feel welcomed. I am also passionate about caring for families at our church who are fostering children.
Asian foods are my go-to when I cook, and making sourdough bread has been a fun new hobby that I started this year. Reading, especially audiobooks, has been so helpful with making chores & exercising something to look forward to. My friends and creating community are important to me, so I am intentional about connecting with friends.
I look forward to cuddles, nurturing him/her with delicious food, teaching him/her the love of reading, listening to music, and singing with our future child. I will strive every day to show our future child how much we love him/her and how precious they are to us and to God.
About Dwayne
I am blessed to be a husband and a father. I love spending time with my family and finding new ways to have fun, whether its vacationing, riding bikes, playing with toys, or enjoying a walk together.
Growing up, I enjoyed playing almost all sports. More recently, golf has become my favorite sport, and I now enjoy coaching the sports I use to play, especially baseball.
I am a finance leader for a large manufacturing company. I really enjoy what I do, but the most rewarding part of my job is being able to develop and mentor newer employees and see them create their own success as they move through their careers.
This love of coaching and mentoring carries over into my family life as well. I can’t wait to encourage and share the things that I have learned through my life with our next child. I will encourage them to explore these passions and make sure they have the resources to develop these skills and interests.
Our Family
Our family grew 6 years ago when our son, Grayson, was born. He has an amazing imagination, is so compassionate, and excited to be a big brother. He loves to learn, read, play baseball, build Legos, dance/sing, ride his bike, and play with his toys.
Our extended families live in Pennsylvania, and we see them several times a year. We really enjoy celebrating holidays together. All the grandkids love listening to Dwayne’s dad reading the Christmas story, seeing horses at So Mi’s dad’s house, and playing with cousins and the whole family. It is an annual tradition to go to the beach with our extended family. The trip is filled with playing in the sand/water, taking turns cooking dinners, games/puzzles, and going out with the siblings.
Our biracial family celebrates different cultures and would love to learn/celebrate our adoptive child’s culture and heritage.
Our Home in North Carolina
We live in a newly built, five-bedroom home in the suburbs of North Carolina. Our house features an open floor plan and a spacious kitchen—perfect for hosting family and friends, which we love to do. There’s plenty of room both inside and out, with a fully fenced backyard with a playset, a large patio, and a screened porch where we spend time relaxing and playing as a family. We love having a raised herb garden, seeing things grow and harvesting the herbs.
Our neighborhood is connected to wooded walking and biking trails and offers a community swimming pool with a clubhouse and playground just a short walk away. It’s a vibrant, family-friendly area filled with lots of children, community events like Easter egg hunts, food trucks, end of school celebrations, and a strong sense of togetherness that drew us here. Local parks, libraries, museums, stores, and restaurants are so nice to have nearby.
Our Promise
We want you to know how deeply we respect your journey. If you choose us, we promise to cherish, love, and nurture your child every single day. We will celebrate their uniqueness, encourage their dreams, and make sure they know, always, how much they are loved.
We promise to do everything we can to give your child a life filled with laughter, adventure, and countless warm memories—bike rides in our neighborhood, beach trips with our extended family, fun experiments in the kitchen, and bedtime stories. Our home is built on faith, love, and a community that supports and encourages each of us to grow.
We believe in providing every opportunity for your child’s future, including a strong education, hands-on learning, and guidance rooted in compassion and understanding. We will help them discover their talents, explore new interests, and cheer for them every step of the way. Our parenting style is loving and focused on connection—we want your child to always feel safe, confident, and secure.
We are truly looking forward to pouring our hearts into building memories, traditions, and a foundation of unconditional love with your child. We know adoption is a lifelong journey, and we will honor your child’s story and identity as they grow.
We promise to remain open to a relationship with you, however you feel most comfortable. We want your child to know about you and your important role in their story. Above all, we want to work together to make the best possible future for your child.
We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.
With respect, gratitude, and hope,
So Mi, Dwayne, and Grayson

More About Our Family
Our Bucket List
We love traveling to new cities and immersing ourselves in the culture. For our next big adventure, we would love to visit South Korea, some different cities in Europe, and go back to Italy where we celebrated our 5-year anniversary. We also love the beach, so Hawaii is high on our list as well as returning to Aruba where we went for our honeymoon. Grayson has an ambitious list of his own including Australia, Paris, and of course he can never have enough trips to Disney World. We can't wait to add another child to our adventures!
Our Faith
God is the center of our hearts and home. We want to live our lives with a servant heart with integrity and love. Our church and community are very important to us. We are active members of our church and feel loved and well connected there. We love Sunday worship, Family Nights, serving, and classes that our church offers. We have made wonderful friends and continue to meet new families. Our son goes to childcare one day a week at our church while So Mi works there. The childcare is a fun, safe, and loving environment.
Our Musical Interest
We love listening to music that gets us singing and dancing! We get our "wiggles out" after dinner with some music or like to learn new dance moves by watching YouTube videos. We enjoy concerts and going to places that have live music. So Mi sang in a choir throughout her school years and in our old church. Dwayne played guitar and played on the worship band. Grayson and So Mi did music classes with Kindermusik in early childhood. We would love to foster a love of music for our children through listening to different types/genre of music and music lessons.
5 Things We Love on a Weekend
Saturdays are our family days, and each weekend brings something a little different.
Here are our top 5 favorite things about the weekend:
1. Playing together – whether it’s bike rides, trips to the park, or special Grayson-Dad play time
2. Exploring local events – pumpkin patches, Christmas lights, festivals, and live music
3. Simply being together – enjoying each other’s company and relaxing as a family
4. Spending time with friends – hosting get-togethers, birthday parties, or meeting up with friends for fun
5. Attending church – worshiping God, connecting with our community, and nurturing our faith
