Hello! We’re humbled and thankful to be considered as adoptive parents for your child. As a couple we believe in serving our family and community, speaking to each other out of respect and love, and staying positive. We’re excited and ready to become first-time parents and feel adoption is the path for us to grow our little family. We would love to get to know more about you and your child!

Our Story

How we met, as told by Shemeka: Our paths crossed at a professional event in the autumn of 2016. Jason was the president of the organization hosting the event, and I was there with my company as a sponsor. Jason said he was “captivated by my professional expertise.” A few months later, when Valentine’s Day came, I received an Edible Arrangement with strawberries and heart-shaped pineapples, along with a note from my secret admirer, Jason. We started dating in March and were engaged the next year. Now we’ve been married about 5 years and our love story continues.

Together we enjoy:
• Traveling and taking in the historical sites, food, and culture of the places we visit
• House chores and tending our yard and garden
• Watching movies
• Hosting holiday parties
• Cooking for company
• Long walks with long talks
• Museum exhibits

About Shemeka

According to Jason: Shemeka has a passion for volunteering and is the one her friends and family come to for advice. I love that she is always careful before she speaks, can stay poised in stressful situations, and is always willing to help as a partner in our marriage. She will make an awesome mother. Shemeka is extremely responsible, can be pretty funny, and gives the warmest, softest hugs of any person I know.

Shemeka’s interests:
• Writing or journaling
• Listening to music
• Learning to cook new recipes for healthy meals
• Bike riding
• Praying, Bible study, and helping with church activities
• Volunteering with Meals on Wheels

About Jason

According to Shemeka: Jason is an honorable, kind, and thoughtful person. He is fun-loving and I adore seeing him when he’s happy and enjoying life. He’s also smart and observant, with a passion for finding ways he can use his abilities to serve others. Jason will be an involved dad, stepping in to teach or guide our child with patience and a caring heart.

Jason’s interests:
• Gardening and landscaping
• Building or working on projects around the house
• Decorating for the holidays
• Volunteering to help black business professionals and mentor young black men
• Serving as president and CFO with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
• Shopping with my wife

Our Home in Florida

We live in a family-oriented, small neighborhood near the downtown city. We’re close to parks and sites where they hold events for the community and families regularly. Our home has 4 bedrooms and we look forward to decorating one of the rooms to become a nursery. We have a spacious front porch and backyard that we enjoy. One of the best compliments to us is when guests remark on how warm and welcomed they feel inside our home.

Our Families

We come from big supportive, close-knit families who love to gather for holidays, birthdays, and family vacations. Our loved ones live both locally and out of town. Shemeka even has family in Jamaica, and we enjoy trips to visit them every 1 to 2 years. We have 2 nieces and 2 nephews, and cousins with kids who are like nieces and nephews to us. Together with them, we like attending community events in the city. Adoption is a part of Shemeka’s extended family, and everyone has been excited about our plans to adopt a child. They will be thrilled to include our child in all the family fun one day!

From the Heart...

If you choose us to adopt your child, we will create for him or her a home overflowing with love, laughter, and endless possibilities. Every day your child will know he or she is cherished, loved, and cared for. We will guide them with warmth and understanding, keeping you in our prayers always. Being entrusted to raise this child will be a responsibility we take to heart. We will honor your part in your child’s story and you will never be forgotten. You’ll always be a meaningful and special part of our family!

As parents we will:
• Raise him or her with a sense of self, encouraged and nurtured to grow into the person they are meant to become.
• Pray as a family and pass down the faith and Bible teachings that will carry them through life.
• Read to and with them as a baby and as they grow, including children’s books about adoption, and more.
• Teach him or her about their heritage, the different cultures of the world, and about nature (and vegetable gardens!).
• Travel together to see the beauty and history of the world.
• Explore his or her interests and encourage them in the right way, providing lessons or training, and emphasizing the importance of education.
• Speak of you with love and respect as your child grows up learning our family’s adoption story.
• Share milestones and updates with you, if you want an open adoption.

We are incredibly grateful for your strength and thoughtfulness as you make plans for your child’s future. Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents! To talk with us, please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family

Why We're Hoping to Adopt

After going through infertility, our desire to raise a child together has stayed strong. We’ve talked with other couples who have adopted and learned a lot through this process. To us, adoption would be a blessing! Our experience mentoring children within our own families, as well as in the community, has shown us, without a doubt, that we could love a child who did not come to us biologically. We look forward to welcoming a child into our hearts and lives through adoption!

What Matters to Us

We value faith, service, and family. Family is the heartbeat of our home, and our faith centers our moral compass. We attend a Baptist church and participate in church events. Out of the love that stems from our family and faith, we are driven to serve those around us, whether we’re delivering meals to the elderly, mentoring young people, or showing compassion to others.

Family Traditions

• Sharing Caribbean dishes with Shemeka’s family around a big table with lots of laughs.
• Holiday parties at our home, with games, music, and home-cooked foods.
• Cooking for Thanksgiving while the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is on TV. Then we put up the Christmas tree with close family members and hear what Jason’s mom has planned for the family to do together that evening, such as painting ornaments.
• Inviting our families over for spontaneous weekend cookouts.

Plans for Childcare

We both work from home and will be able to care for our child at home together. Our work schedules are flexible so we will take turns spending time with and caring for our child throughout the day. Jason's mother or Shemeka's aunts are excited to help out occasionally as well. As our child gets older, we may consider pre-school or daycare options outside of the home, if needed or helpful for our future son or daughter.

In Closing

Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents for your child! We are ready and excited to add a child to our lives through open adoption and welcome a connection with you, if you'd like. We can share updates as your child grows and even plan occasional visits. It would be great to learn more about you and the hopes you have for your child's future. We'd love to talk with you! Just ask Lifetime about us to set up a call or video chat.
