We are a fun-loving family of three that loves adventures big and small, from traveling to spending quality time at the lake or just playing games. We’re excited to continue to grow our family through adoption and add a son or daughter to our home! We want to instill in your child that God loves them – no matter what. We enjoy our friendship with our son’s birth mom and look forward to sharing photos, letters, and visits with you at your comfort level.

Our Story

Together we like to laugh, explore new places, and relax with friends. Our love for learning, art, adventure, and the outdoors are some of the things we want to pass down to our children. We also look forward to sharing the small things like gardening together, picnics, and paddle boarding at the lake as a family with our next child.

Though we met when we were kids, it wasn’t until high school that we got to know each other at a boarding school in Africa. After being great friends, we dated for a year long-distance, Johan was in Holland and Angela was in California. Now we’ve been married for 14 years. We’ve always known we wanted to adopt, and after learning that we couldn’t get pregnant, we were blessed to adopt our son, Kyan. We are excited to adopt again!

About My Wife, Angela

Angela is fun-loving, nurturing, and artistic. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, glassblowing, ceramics, and painting. Most of all she loves being a stay-at-home mom to our son. She loves to watch as our son explore and encourages him to learn new things. Angela always looks to find the best in people and has lots of patience. She loves children and volunteers in the children’s department at our church on Sundays. Our son absolutely adores Angela, and she is the most amazing mom! She is excited about instilling a love for life and learning in our next baby and exploring the outdoors together.

About My Husband, Johan

Johan is loving and driven. He has always been there to support me, pushing me to be the best that I can be. Johan works for a software company from home which allows his schedule to be flexible for life at home. He loves to be creative and build with LEGO and wood, as well as with his computer. I love watching Johan play with our son, as he teaches him new things and explores with him. He is an amazing dad who will invest everything in making sure his children are loved, happy, and fulfilled, giving them anything they need to succeed in following their dreams. He is excited to teach our next baby everything he knows and watching them grow.

Our Son and Family

One of the best days of our lives has been the day we adopted our son, Kyan, and being able to meet his birth family. He is an adventurous little boy that loves to explore, learn how things work, and loves being around people. He is very protective and can’t wait to be the best big brother ever. We love the friendship we share with his birth mom.

Angela is the eldest of four girls who love to get together as often as they can. Johan has two younger sisters that we try to visit a couple of times a year. When we do, we like to play games, go hiking, biking and rowing. Both sets of parents have been married for over 30 years. Our families are thrilled about our adoption and look forward to welcoming our next child into the family.

We grew up in multiple countries in Africa, coming home every few years. We’ve experienced different cultures and have many fun family traditions we look forward to sharing like Sinterklaas, building forts on Christmas eve, and I’m sure we will develop more as time goes on.

Our Home in North Carolina

We live in a three-bedroom home in a community outside of town with an acre of room to play, filled with fireflies and life that we love to chase and explore. We have a cat, Mooki, and two dogs, Mishka and Zeal, who love children. The house has a garden and a fenced yard. There are many opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, going to the mountains and to the lake. We love keeping our home warm and welcoming to others and always enjoy spending time together as a family there.

Our Promise

As parents, we hope to instill in our children the same Christian values that we were raised with and to help them understand who God is, and His unconditional love for all of us. We want our children to know that they are loved no matter what. We promise to give your child a safe, fun, and inspiring environment to grow as an individual with every opportunity to thrive. We will seek to make your child feel valued, understood, and important with the love and support from us as parents and our families. We hope to instill a love of adventure, learning, and caring for others. We promise to openly discuss adoption and would love for you to be a part of your child’s life, if you would like, through letters, videos, pictures, and occasional visits.

More About Our Family

Our Special Interests

During the summer we enjoy going standup paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming at a nearby lake several times a week. We also like to go hiking whenever the opportunity presents itself. Recently we have been enjoying going bowling as a family and with friends too. At home, we love to host or attend game nights with friends and family. In our spare time, we both enjoy making things, painting, sculpture, glass blowing, and doing anything involving art. As we were raised in Africa, we try to make several trips a year to travel and enjoy exploring the world.

Our Faith

God has always been a constant in our lives and his unconditional love is something that we want to share with your child. We both were raised in Christian homes and have personal relationships with God. We enjoy going to our church and love how diverse and welcoming it is.

Our Pets

We have two German Shepherds, Mishka and Zeal, who love children, and a cat, Mooki. Kyan and Zeal are best friends, and do everything together.

Our Son's Adoption Story

We first learned about our son Kyan the day he was born in 2019, and we became first time parents that day. We have been incredibly blessed through his adoption and the open relationship we have with his birthmother, and cannot wait to grow our family further. Kyan is a firecracker - a curious, social, sweet, snugly boy, who will be a great big brother. Kyan likes to play fetch with the dogs, anything that has to do with wheels, and enjoys spending time with his cousins, who are very close in age.

In Closing

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about us and our lives. We would love to learn more about you and are praying for you. We believe adoption is something to be celebrated and want to discuss this openly from the very beginning with your child. We would love to share pictures, videos, and plan visits when possible if that is something you would like. We're really excited to grow our family through adoption and share our life’s adventures with your little one.
