Nice to meet you! We have always wanted to adopt, and we have family members who are adopted. We have been blessed with many opportunities in life and are now excited to provide those same, and even more, opportunities to a child who we will love, cherish, support, and encourage. We are excited to explore the outdoors with another child while learning, laughing, and encouraging them to discover their interests and pursue them with passion.
We are experienced parents of a wonderful three-year-old boy who will be an amazing older sibling and help our new child explore the world with smiles and laughter. Karen was a nanny and babysat for over 15 years while going to school and has experience with a variety of ages and children. We are ready and excited to grow our family and provide a loving environment of support, education, and opportunity to another child through adoption.
About Us
We were introduced by mutual friends who said we would be perfect for each other… and they were right! We met 9 years ago over a date hitting golf balls and getting to know each other. Since then, we have become best friends and have built a great life and home together. Together we enjoy walking our dogs, exploring the outdoors, hiking, camping, boating, skiing, and relaxing on our back patio. We have family dinner every night, and in the summers eat outside on the back patio as much as we can.
We both played a lot of sports growing up and were collegiate athletes. Fitness, exercise, and teamwork are important to us. We look forward to encouraging our next child to explore and discover their own interests, which we will enjoy learning and supporting ourselves! We have highly flexible schedules and will attend all our child’s ball games, activities and school events. Our children will have access to some of the best schools in the country, and we look forward to helping them with their homework, doing flashcards together, and doing art or science projects.

About Karen (written by John)
Karen is:
- The heartbeat of our household
- Extremely even keeled and never runs out of energy
- Keeps our household operating and organized
- A loving person, kind, and empathizing. I can always turn to Karen for support, as well as advice, especially when it comes to managing people.
- An amazing mother. She is extremely patient, supportive, and understanding of both our son and me. She is a great teacher and almost always up for an adventure.
Karen looks forward to sharing her love for running, plants, cooking, crafts and reading with our child. She is excited to spend time together exploring the library, zoo, playgrounds, and reading lots of books.
Our Family
Extended family: We are fortunate to have extended family nearby. John’s brother who has two young children and his parents live 30 minutes away. We see them regularly for birthdays, holidays, and fun.
Karen’s family lives spread across the Western US where their careers took them. She has two sisters who have five young children who love cousins. Despite being spread out, the family regularly gets together for holidays and vacations; this means regular trips to Colorado, Texas, and California. We also connect via FaceTime regularly.
Our son is a very curious, energetic, and fun 3-year-old. His teachers describe him as sweet, helpful to the other students, and eager to participate in activities. We know that these characteristics will make him a great big brother to our future child. He loves biking, building, exploring, laughing, reading books, and being with us.
Our Pets: We have two dogs, Audrey and Jane. They are very much a part of our family. They hang out where we are and join in on as many adventures as they can, even if that means just riding along in the car. They love people, running fast, and a good nap under blankets.
Our Home
Our home is on a small lake in the city and only a short drive to family, sporting events, restaurants, and other city activities. We live on a large piece of land that is fully fenced all the way around. We are at the end of a long private lane with wonderful neighbors who have young kids. Our fenced yard provides lots of space for our children to learn how to ride a bike, play sports in the grass, and explore the outside in a safe environment. Our small lake has no motorboats and is a great place to learn to swim, play on innertubes, and go fishing on the weekends.
We have a two-story, brick house that we have had a lot of fun renovating and making our own. It has 4 bedrooms. Our next child will initially sleep in the same room as us, but will have their own bedroom. Our house has lots of space for them to play, including a children’s table for drawing, painting, and Play-Doh, and a recreation room with plenty of children’s toys and space to be creative. We also live near family, so our new child will form a close bond with grandma, grandpa, and cousins.
Our Promise
We promise to unconditionally love your child. We will provide a loving and supportive home with fun and adventure. We will ensure your child’s physical, social, educational, and emotional needs are met. They will grow up in a beautiful part of the country and home that promotes exploration and a love for the outdoors. We will teach them about God and the Catholic faith.
If you’d like, we welcome an open adoption and will gladly share future contact with you. We will follow your lead on the level of contact you want to maintain. This can include letters, emails, videos, pictures, or scheduled visits. Your child will always know about you, so that your role in their story can be understood and celebrated.
We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family
Thoughts on Parenting
We love being parents to our son. Parenting is a journey, one that changes with each season of a child's development. However, there are a few constants that never change: respect, encouragement, exploration, and ensuring a child's physical and emotional needs are met.
We parent with the philosophy that all children are good inside. We will seek to build our future child up with self-confidence and skills gained through supportive exploration. We believe that when a child is struggling, their needs are not being met or they do not know how to express what they need – it is our job to work with the child to figure it out and move through it. Hard times for our next child will be met with love, support, and understanding. We look forward to encouraging and watching them grow into a kind, loving and successful person. We will help them develop curiosity, creativity, confidence, empathy, resilience, and perseverance.
A Typical Weekend
Weekends for us are about restoration, fun, and getting outside. The weekend is an important time to connect with family and friends near and far. It is also a time to experience new activities as a family, such as the nearby tidepool, hiking, boating, camping, the library, or the pumpkin patch. We are also frequently outside on the weekend with the dogs in tow, taking walks, at the playground, or playing in the yard.
Fun Facts About Us
-Karen and all her sisters work for different state universities.
-John started and runs a law firm.
-Karen went on a trip in college to the Galapagos Islands for a Biology course.
-John has a passion for boats and has several used boats of different sizes and styles that he enjoys tinkering with and driving to share adventures and good times with our friends and family.
-We live 15 minutes from the zoo, the ocean with tidepools, the children’s museum, the children's theater, and a half dozen parks.
-Our lake is home to at least four species of fish, as well as bald eagles. A Saturday morning often starts with stepping into our backyard to take our son for a quick fishing trip while eating breakfast on our paddle boat.
Our Values
We will encourage our next child to have curiosity, resilience, confidence, social awareness, social skills, empathy, and perseverance. We also strongly value education and will encourage them to seek higher and continuous education that fosters a life of leadership and service.
We believe that all people are good and that one of life’s greatest gifts is the opportunity to walk a mile in everyone’s shoes and see things from their perspective.
