Watch Our Video

Hi, we’re John and Karen. Thank you for taking a moment to learn about our family. Our home is full of family dinners, bedtime stories, muddy shoes, dogs curled under blankets, and frequent adventures near the water. We are already parents to a curious and sweet little boy, and we would be honored to welcome another child into our family through adoption. We hope to build a relationship with you based on honesty, respect, and the level of connection that feels right for everyone.

About Us

We were introduced by friends almost 10 years ago who said we would be perfect for each other… and they were right! Together we enjoy walking our dogs, hiking, camping, boating, skiing, relaxing on our back patio and sharing all of these things with our son. We make it a priority to have dinner together as a family every night, to take time to reconnect and hear what’s going on with each other.

We look forward to helping our children explore and discover their own interests. We have very flexible schedules and will attend all our children’s activities and school events. We look forward to helping them with their homework and learning how to read, doing flashcards together, and doing art/science projects. Being parents has been a dream come true and we’re excited about growing our family through adoption!

About John (written by Karen)

One of my favorite things about John is how completely present he is with our son. Whether they are building something in the garage, reading the same book for the tenth time, or investigating a bug in the yard, John slows down and enters his world.

John is very goal-oriented and methodical in how he pursues his dreams and passions. John cannot wait to share his passion for fishing, boating, and sports with another child. He is also very handy with tools, building and home improvement. He works from home running his own business, which lets him arrange his schedule so that he has a lot of time for our family.

About Karen (written by John)

Karen has a gift for making children feel safe and understood. When our son is frustrated, she gets down at his level, listens carefully, and helps him find the words for what he is feeling.

Karen is a loving person, kind, and empathizing. She is extremely patient, supportive, and understanding. She is a great teacher and almost always up for an adventure. Karen looks forward to sharing her love for running, dogs, plants, cooking, crafts and reading with our next child. She works at a local hospital as a pharmacist and loves taking care of our community.

Our Family

Our son is a very curious, energetic, and fun 4-year-old. His teachers describe him as sweet, helpful to the other students, and eager to participate in activities. He will be a great big brother and will love playing with his sibling.

Extended family: John’s family lives 30 minutes from our house, including two nieces. We see them regularly for birthdays, holidays, and fun. Karen’s family lives out of state, including three nieces and nephews. We regularly get together for holidays and vacations; this means fun trips to Colorado, Texas, and California for cousin time. We also connect on FaceTime between visits.

Adoption has been part of our extended family’s story, so we have seen the importance of speaking about adoption openly, honoring every part of a child’s identity, and treating birth-family relationships with care. Growing our family through adoption is something we have discussed and hoped for throughout our marriage. Our whole family has been excited about and supportive of our plans to adopt.

Our Pets: We have two dogs, Audrey and Jane. They are very much a part of our family. They join us for as many adventures as they can, even if that means just riding along in the car. They love people, running fast, and a good nap under blankets.

Our Home in Washington State

Our home is in the city and only a short drive to family, sporting events, restaurants, playgrounds and many activities. We have wonderful diverse friends and neighbors, many of whom have young kids and would make wonderful role models. Our fenced yard provides lots of space for learning how to ride a bike, playing sports and exploring outside in a safe environment.

We have had a lot of fun improving our home and making it our own. Our next child will sleep in the same room as us for the first few months, and then, when they are ready, he or she will have their own room in the nursery we’ve set up.

Our Promise

We promise to unconditionally love your child. We will provide a loving and supportive home with fun and adventure. We will make sure your child’s physical, social, educational, and emotional needs are met. We will teach them about God and the Catholic faith. We will also teach them about their cultural identity and help them feel connected to their heritage.

We welcome an open adoption and will gladly share future contact with you. We believe openness begins with listening. We would want to learn what continued connection means to you and work together toward a relationship that is respectful, healthy, and centered on the child. This could include pictures, letters, video calls, texts, and visits. We will make sure your child grows up knowing that their story began with love and that you remain an important part of who they are and celebrated.

We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family

Our Thoughts on Parenting

We are warm, grounded, experienced parents. Our home offers both adventure and emotional security. As parents, we value respect, encouragement, exploration, and ensuring our child's physical and emotional needs are met.

We believe all children are good inside. We believe that when a child is struggling, their needs are not being met or they do not know how to express what they need – it is our job to work together to figure it out and move through it.

Our hope is that our children will grow into kind, loving and happy people. We will help them develop curiosity, creativity, confidence, empathy, resilience, and perseverance.

A Typical Weekend

Weekends for us are about being together, relaxing, fun, and being outside. We spend time with family and friends near and far. We experience new activities as a family, such as the nearby tidepool, hiking, boating, camping, the library, or the pumpkin patch. We are frequently outside on the weekend with the dogs, taking walks, at the playground, or playing in the yard.

Fun Facts About Us

-Karen grew up in California, and moved to Washington after high school. She took 4 years of Spanish in high school and enjoys teaching our son Spanish words and phrases.

-John loves boats. He loves fixing old boats and sharing adventures and good times with our friends and family.

-We live just 15 minutes from the zoo, the ocean with tide pools, the children’s museum, the children's theater, and parks.

Our Values

We value education, curiosity, and lifelong learning. Whether our child’s path eventually includes college, a trade, entrepreneurship, the arts, or another calling, we will help them discover their strengths and pursue a future that is meaningful to them.
