Hello from Colorado! We’re so happy you found us! We will be celebrating our ten year anniversary this year, and we are beyond excited to begin building our family through open adoption.
We have always dreamed of building a family together, and we believe that God has called us to play a meaningful role in raising the next generation. Early in our marriage we discussed the possibility of adopting “one day”. We believe that day is now!
As first-time parents, we are filled with joy and hope as we step into this journey–to embrace every unique quality and to help our little one find and pursue what he or she is passionate about.
About Us
We believe in the importance of faith, family, friendship, education, being active, and pursuing personal growth. We have a desire for adventure and new experiences, while also cherishing our cozy and comforting home base. Our dream is to build a home where our children are surrounded by solid community, where they feel equally supported and challenged, where they want to invite their friends over, and where they feel known and loved unconditionally.
Luke had testicular cancer when he was younger, and so we are unable to have biological children together. However, we are still very much committed to building our family together through adoption.
There are so many things we love to do with our free time. Here are a few ways you might find us in the evenings and on the weekends:
- Cooking new recipes and baking sourdough
- Quiet time on the patio with a hot cup of coffee
- Enjoying dinner at our sister’s BBQ restaurant
- Home projects – most recently, a home gym and golf simulator
- Teaching Financial Peace University classes our church
- Hosting summer parties where we gather with family, friends, coworkers, and our neighbors
- Adventuring! Most recently to places like Ireland, Mexico, Hawaii, Thailand, and of course, the beautiful Rocky Mountains
- Rooting for our favorite teams – mainly the Denver Broncos and Nuggets
We cannot wait to share all of these things with our children, and we look forward to reshaping our activities around the things our children love doing most as well.
About Kara (written by Luke)
Kara is the type of person that brings fun and positivity to every situation – she lights up the room with her smile and is always singing or dancing.
Kara was a competitive figure skater growing up, and she still loves spending time on the ice today. It was there that Kara learned how to work hard, thrive under pressure, and pursue her dreams. These are incredible values that we hope to instill for our children as well.
Kara puts faith first in every area of life. She loves spending time in her Bible and journaling on Saturday mornings with a cup of coffee. Kara is on our teaching team and our worship team at church, and I love the way she encourages us to incorporate our faith into our daily lives.
In addition to skating, singing and teaching at church, Kara also loves baking and spending time outdoors whether that be spending time in her garden, walking the dogs, or hiking.
Kara was made to be a mom. She is amazing with kids of all ages. I’m so excited to see her pour her encouragement and love into our future children.
About Luke (written by Kara)
Luke is both curious and intelligent – always researching or picking up a new hobby, simply for the challenge and enjoyment he gets from learning something new. Recently he’s been learning more about watches, researching fighter jets, and is honing in his golf game with the simulator he built.
Luke is fun to be around – always making up funny stories, practicing “dad” jokes, and always invites me along in whatever fun project or activity he has in mind. Luke also has a calming presence. I love it when he pulls out his guitar or ukulele to practice his favorite songs.
Luke makes the best shakes in the world – healthy green shakes in the morning, and dessert milkshakes in the evening. Take your pick, and I guarantee it will be delicious.
I am always amazed at his ability to make deep and meaningful connections with every person he meets.
Having Luke in my life has undoubtedly made me a better version of myself. He encourages me, he challenges me, and he supports me. Luke is going to be an amazing father. I can’t wait to see him encourage, challenge, and support our future children the way he does for me today.
Our Family
We both grew up in big families with many siblings and cousins close to our age. Our siblings and cousins are still some of our closest friends. We both have so many fond memories of spending time at large family gatherings during the holidays or over summer breaks. Today, we are excited to have our own little ones to add into the memories that we are making now. Having close family relationships, including our dearest friends who have become family over the years, is one of the most important parts of our lives.
We have lots of family close by, and some that live further away in other states as well. We see our local family regularly, and we do our very best to stay connected to the out-of-state family as well. We host when they come to town and spend time visiting their homes when we can.
Needless to say, there are aunties, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas anxiously awaiting the arrival of our newest family member!
Our Home in Colorado
We moved into our dream home last spring and have loved getting to know our neighbors. There are lots of young families in our quiet neighborhood, and everyone is so welcoming. The ladies even get together for game night once a month.
We enjoy a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains from our living room window. Our home sits on a half-acre, with lots of open space around us. It is our own little countryside oasis, not too far from the exciting downtown area or the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Luke loves maintaining our yard so that it looks green and fresh all summer long. Kara planted iris that she brought from her grandmother’s home to add a pop of color.
We have a large open concept living room, dining, and kitchen area – perfect for hosting friends and family, which we try to do often. We have four bedrooms and two home office spaces which we use when working from home. Kara is especially excited to be preparing a nursery.
Our Promise
We mean it when we say that we are filled with joy and hope as we think about our dreams of building a family becoming reality. We promise to celebrate the unique qualities, purpose, and passion your baby will bring into this world. We promise to support, encourage, and challenge your baby to be the best version of her or himself. We promise to provide your baby a safe, stable, and secure home. Like in our marriage and in our relationship with Christ, we promise to choose life with your baby each and every day, ensuring that he or or she grows up knowing what it means to be loved unconditionally and to live life to its fullest.
We are open to maintaining a meaningful connection with you, if that is something you would like to pursue. Whether it be photos and updates through text or email, or even scheduled visits. We are committed to keep you in the loop as much or as little as you would like, ensuring that we honor both you and your baby’s adoption story.
Adoption is a big life decision – both for you and for us. If you have any questions or would like to get to know us better, it would be our pleasure to meet you. We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family
Our Pups
Harvey is our three-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd, and Gibson is our two-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. These two together make the funniest but sweetest pair. Harvey can frequently be found trying to herd Gibson into different parts of the house or cycling through his tricks to get as many treats as possible. Gibson can usually be found lying on the coldest part of the floor, seemingly oblivious to Harvey's best efforts, but is quick to wag his tail and beg for a tummy rub when we walk nearby. They love having our nieces and nephews around and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new favorite human!
Our Faith
Our faith is a huge part of our lives. We have been attending our church for over 10 years. We are very involved and volunteer in a number of ways, including on the worship team (Kara - vocals / Luke - acoustic guitar), the finance team, the hospitality team (donuts and coffee), and the teaching team. Our church community has prayed for us, celebrated with us, cried with us, laughed with us, and much more. We believe that when we intentionally pursue our relationships with Christ individually, that our marriage and our relationships are stronger.
Memorable Moments from our Childhoods
Luke: I remember cramming into the backseat of the minivan with my four siblings as we drove from Colorado to Iowa to spend time on my grandparents' farm. My mom would read us books, we would listen to "Adventures in Odyssey", we would play the license plate game, and we would take turns trying to get semi-trucks to honk as they drove by.
Kara: I remember my cousins coming over for our annual "Snowflake Day." It was usually the first snowy weekend of the new year in January. We would usually do a cute snowy-themed craft, make homemade rice crispy treats, dance to our favorite songs, play games, sleep in tents in the living room, and have polar bear paws (biscuits covered in cinnamon sugar) for breakfast the next morning.
What We Want to Be When We Grow Up (... when we were 5 years old)
Luke: I wanted to be a fighter pilot or a pro basketball player.
Kara: I wanted to compete in the Olympics for figure skating! If that didn't work out, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
