Hello! We truly appreciate all that you’re going through to consider adoption. We would be honored to be chosen as your child’s adoptive family! As a committed Christian couple we’d love to provide a stable, supportive, loving home for our future child. We’re so excited to become first-time parents and look forward to teaching basic life skills, like changing a tire or cooking a good meal, as well as fun things like snowboarding, running, going to the ballet or symphony, or hunting or fishing. We can’t wait to get into the things our child is interested in too! Kami will be a stay-at-home mom and our construction company makes it possible for Mike to work a flexible schedule so he’ll have lots of family time.

You will always hold a place in our hearts and we’ll make sure your child knows how much you mean to us. We’d love to get to know you!

Our Story

How we met (as told by Kami): We went to the same Bible study and ended up sitting next to each other on the couch. As an ice-breaker game, we had to say our favorite animal. I said I like dolphins because they are friendly, intelligent, and amazing swimmers. Mike went next and said he would pick the great white shark, after which he looked at Kami with a funny, “oh this is awkward now” expression, since our answers were sort of contrasting, but similar. Everyone in the group laughed and that night was the start of our friendship. We’ve now been happily married over 9 years!

Together we enjoy:
• Traveling to new places, especially to see the culture, landscape, and history of a place we visit
• Trips in the RV with our dogs
• Having dinner with friends
• Playing games with our family
• Attending or helping at our church’s events
• Hiking
• Finding new-to-us restaurants
• Going to a concert
• Chilling at home to watch a show or have a good talk

About Kami

Mike says: Kami is a beautiful, caring person who puts others needs above her own. She goes above and beyond in everything she does, especially in how she loves me and our dogs. Kami supports me in all that we do and is a great partner. She loves adventure, exploring, and trying new things too. Kami is great with kids of all ages and they adore her too. I’ve watched her help raise some of her nieces and nephews, so I already know she’s going to be an amazing mom.

Kami likes:
• Walking our dogs
• Reading mystery novels
• Going for a run
• Teaching Bible study to children (her degree and former job were in elementary education!)
• Volunteering to help survivors of human trafficking
• Doing real-estate for our construction company (until we adopt!)

About Mike

Kami says: Mike is diligent in all he does, and also funny (he loves to be silly). He is a wonderful provider and has built a growing business through his construction company where we build and remodel houses. He enjoys a challenge, is good at problem solving, and will do what he can to protect those he loves. I believe he’ll be a wonderful dad who loves to play and be silly, yet also show his children the importance of hard work and trying again.

Mike likes:
• Surfing
• Snowboarding
• Hunting, especially on a duck hunt with our Chocolate Lab, Malakai
• Fishing
• Home projects
• Camping

Our Home in Oregon

We live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where it’s full of evergreens and moss-covered rocks. We love that we can easily take day trips to the coast, the mountains, or the high desert. Our neighborhood is just outside of town in the countryside, with rolling hills, vineyards, pine trees and small farms. It’s also just 20 minutes away from the city.

Our home is a Scandinavian-modern house on 5 acres. We live at the end of a road, so it’s quiet and private. We have a finished garage with an upstairs apartment and a large shop. The house has 5 bedrooms and is decorated in natural colors with lots of plants, and our oversized couch is perfect to cozy up with a snuggly blanket and the fireplace going. We’re planning to get some chickens and cows in the near future to start our own mini-farm. The room we’re planning for the nursery is close to our bedroom and has a beautiful view of a field backed by old evergreen trees. We’ve already begun to collect books to read at bedtime and can picture rocking our little one to sleep in a chair by the window, while praying and singing over them. We love to imagine life with a child in this home!

Our Families

We have a wonderful community of family and friends who are always there for us, ready to support and help each other. We have 2 nieces and 3 nephews who will be excited about a new baby cousin too. Mike has a younger brother and a lot of cousins he loved exploring with as a kid. Kami is the third child out of four siblings who all grew up playing on her grandparents’ 40 acre farm. Most of our family lives close to us, but we also have some family in Hawaii, Montana, and eastern Oregon. We love planning lots of time with our loved ones and visit as much as we can.

From Our Hearts

Thank you for considering us as your child’s adoptive family. We promise to protect, love, and support this baby with everything we have. We will teach them about God and pray over him or her as they grow into the person they are meant to become. We promise to encourage and guide them as they explore and learn. We want to help this child go through life with confidence, joy, gratitude, and the ability to work hard. We will raise him or her to know their story is grounded in love, on all sides, and that they have a purpose and wonderful things in this life to accomplish. We would forever be so grateful to be a part of this child’s story!

We believe open adoption can be a positive, amazing thing for all involved. We will gladly share updates and a connection as your child grows up, if you want ongoing contact. If you need space, we will respect that too and want you to know that we would always be glad to hear from you when you’re comfortable. We will always talk about you with respect and love, you will never be forgotten, and your child will know how much you mean to us all.

More About Our Family

Fun Facts

Kami: When I was a kid, I’d bring home all kinds of animals or critters and keep them as a pet, at least for a few days. I had lizards, snakes, a praying mantis, rabbits, llamas, sheep, and more! The most unique “pet” I had was a wild magpie bird that had fallen out of its nest. I raised it and returned it to the wild when it could fly. This bird continued to return to my house for about 8 years and would bring its whole flock with it for the summer! That was one of my best summers raising that baby bird.

Mike: I’ve been called a “Renaissance Man” by some friends because I have many different interests and skills. I was also born and raised in Hawaii and moved to the cold climate when I was 20 (I love the snow and the mountains!).

Our Pets

We have two dogs who are a fun, lovable part of our lives. Malakai is a large Chocolate Labrador who is sweet, tough, and emotionally attentive. River is our medium-sized Border Collie-mix rescue who is sassy, silly, a little shy, and has the best wiggles when she sees someone she loves. Both of our dogs are great with others and terrific family pets.

Plans for Childcare & Education

Before Kami started working in real estate as part of our construction company, she was an elementary school teacher. After we adopt she will be a stay-at-home mom. Since Mike has a lot of flexibility with our business, he will have plenty of time to be home to bond and be involved with our child. Having a background in education, Kami’s excited to homeschool our child and create child-specific, hands-on lessons for each year of school. We will be a part of homeschool groups too, so that our child has a well-rounded and social experience with other families and kids. It’s also important to us that we give our child lots of experiences and opportunities to discover their interests and talents. We will nurture and provide ways to help him or her develop their gifts as they grow up.

Why We Are Hoping to Adopt

(As told by Mike) When I met Kami she shared with me how she’d been learning about and hoping to adopt since she was a child. At 7 years old she had watched a TV documentary about adoption and when she was in her teens she felt strongly that God was calling her to adopt. I loved her heart for adoption and we agreed that if we ever married we would grow our family this way. We truly believe that adoption creates a special connection. We’re excited to share our lives with a little one who comes into our hearts and family by adoption.
