My husband and I really want to adopt twins. What is the best way to do this? Thanks for any help you can provide!
P.S. I listen to you every week on Let’s Talk Adoption!
Thank you for writing, Barbara!
Some adoption professionals will work with you, only for a twin situation. But don’t get your hopes up, even if they promise you they can find you twins. Twins are pretty uncommon, even in adoption.
We hear about so many twins, triplets, and more these days, most of which are the result of fertility treatments. Natural twins do occur, but most organizations will not get more than one or two situations a year at the most. And believe me, most families would love to get twins!
Be sure to ask your adoption professional how long they think it would be before you are matched. You want to go into a situation with your eyes open if you choose to be extremely restrictive, such as wanting twins only. If you are open to older children, see what is available through the foster system. Often there are twins or sibling groups that may be just what you are looking for!
Also, please keep listening to Let’s Talk Adoption. We will be having an upcoming show about parenting multiples. Even fertility patients need to be prepared when learning they will be parents to 2, 3 or more, all at once!
Best of luck to you and your husband!
