In honor of National Adoption Awareness Month, I was recently interviewed by our local newspaper, The Sacramento Bee.
Due to recession, there are more children in need of homes than ever, and fewer adoptive parents available. I liken it to the Depression, when there were so many families realizing that they couldn’t have another mouth to feed.
One common myth about adoption today is that it is very expensive. There is a federal tax credit for adoption and some employers offer benefits to help with the cost. If people can afford to buy a new car or go on a cruise or vacation or get plastic surgery, they can put that funding toward adoption.
