I recently sat down with Chad and Abby, a faith-filled Georgia couple hoping to be first-time parents through adoption. When you’re considering adoption for your child, you have the opportunity to speak with and interview prospective adoptive parents before finalizing your decision. These conversations provide a platform for you to explore their core values, parenting philosophies, and life goals while asking the questions that matter most to you about your child’s potential future. Through these conversations, you can assess whether their family dynamic, lifestyle, and vision for raising a child align with the dreams and aspirations you hold for your baby’s upbringing and development.
I asked Chad and Abby some fun questions that you won’t find in their adoption profile, and I learned that they’re a fun-loving Christian couple who are honestly best friends. Chad and Abby are both teachers. Chad is a middle school art teacher, while Abby’s a first-grade teacher. Once they adopt, Abby will become a stay-at-home mom. Together, they enjoy going on walks around town, working out, finding new & fun restaurants, and serving at their church.
1. What’s your favorite fast-food chain? What do you usually order?
Abby: Chick-fil-a Combo #1 with Frosted Coffee
Chad: Chick-fil-a Combo #1 with Peach Milkshake (when in season)

2. What is the best gift you’ve ever been given?
Abby: I was a missionary in West Africa for six years. I made very close friends that I call family. Early one morning, I got a call that my friend had given birth to a baby girl. I rushed over.
In West Africa, the baby is always named after someone. I was sitting and admiring her beauty, and then was told, “Her name is Abby.” It was one of the greatest honors of my life.
Chad: When Abby and I were dating, she gave me a carved wooden elephant from her time in Africa. The elephant reminded me of the gift from my grandmother of four plastic elephants. I had carried these in my pocket daily when I was five years old.

3. What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Abby: Several years ago, I made a work trip to Thailand. On the last day, I had about 14 hours to fill. I saw advertisements for visiting and petting tigers. I decided this would be the perfect “time-filler”. So, I took a taxi out to the countryside.
As I entered the enclosure with the largest tiger, I immediately knew this was probably the “most daring (or dumbest)” thing I had ever done. The tiger weighed a few hundred pounds and was over half my height. My heart raced, but I kept my cool. I petted him and then quickly exited the enclosure!
Chad: My college roommates and I went on a beach trip. We enjoyed the sun, food, and friendship, but I guess the late round of putt-putt was not enough. They announced they wanted to go bungee jumping.
Here I am, “Mr. Cautious!” and afraid of heights! However, my friends were fearless!
I prayed and gathered my courage. Afterward, my friends told me I was silent on the way down but shrilled like a girl as I bounced back up!
4. What was your first job? Did you like it?
Chad: Kids Summer Camp Counselor. I loved the job and continued to do it for several years!
Abby: Summer Camp Kitchen Staff. It was an absolute blast! I made many friends and created lasting memories!
5. What is something from your childhood that you want to make sure your child gets to experience?
Abby: As a child, I loved to play outside. We didn’t have anything fancy or big, but my brother and I used our imaginations to the fullest. We spent hours running in our woods and building forts out of fallen tree branches.
As my dad cut the grass, my brother and I gathered clippings to feed our imaginary farm animals. We ran through the sprinkler on hot afternoons. Days were filled with laughter, scratches and bruises, and creativity. I want our children to experience outdoor fun. I want them to use their imagination and just be a kid outside!
Chad: As a child, I remember special moments with my parents. My mom read me books. My dad let me sit in his lap, and we drew together. My imagination was expanded, and my talent for drawing was nurtured. I want our child to experience the freedom, safety, and warm memories that come from the love of a family.
