Watch Our VideoCommon Questions About Finding Qualified Adoptive Families
I’ve found a family from an adoptive parent profile that I love! What is the next step?
The first step to starting an adoption plan with any waiting family with Lifetime Adoption is to complete our online questionnaire. (If your child is already born, be sure to complete the questionnaire for a child already born) You can also fill out the response form on the adoption profile page to receive more information about that specific family. You can also call or text a coordinator at any time, 24/7, to answer questions.
What if I don’t know what I’m looking for?
Consider starting with looking at all the waiting adoptive families to get an idea of the types of families that have created adoption profiles. As you look through some, you may begin to get an idea of specific things you’d like, such as race or state. You may have other ideas come up like if you want other children in the family or a stay-at-home mom. It’s okay if you don’t know yet what you are looking for, just taking the first step of looking will help you narrow it down.
Do I get to talk to waiting adoptive families before I decide?
Yes! The first step in the process is looking at adoption profiles to see what families interest you. We usually encourage expectant mothers to choose the top three families they are interested in. You can speak to one or more of the families as you make the decision if adoption is the right choice for you and your baby. It really helps as you are reading through and watching the videos to narrow it down to the adoption parent profiles that really resonate with you. Then, if you want to learn more about those families, just ask your coordinator to send you more information about those families. She can send adoption profiles by email or mail, whatever works best for you.
What if I am looking for something really specific in adoptive parents for my baby?
Reach out and speak with one of our adoption coordinators by phone or text. The adoption profile search tool on this page is really just the beginning – we can do a more complete search if there is something very specific you are looking for, like profession, number of siblings, a family who has specific views (like politics or on vaccination) or can help you with pregnancy-related expenses. There is no right or wrong when you are looking at adoption parent profiles – it is really about what you want for your child.
My child might have special needs. How do I know what families will be open to them?
Talk to one of Lifetime’s coordinators and share the information you know about your child. She can send you adoption profiles of waiting adoptive parents who are open and prepared for a child who may have special needs, including Down Syndrome, effects of substance exposure (like drug abuse), genetic abnormalities, and more.
My child is already born. Are all these waiting adoptive families open to them too?
Many of the adoptive families are open, but we’ve set up a page of adoption parent profiles specifically for waiting adoptive families who are open to older children.
How do I know these adoption profiles are showing families who are safe?
Waiting adoptive parents have completed an adoption home study, which is a very thorough background process that includes background checks, home inspections, medical and financial verification, personal interviews, and much more. You can learn more about the home study process here. If you are in the state of Florida, please use Lifetime Adoption as your home study provider.
