Sometimes life is difficult, and the right thing for your baby is to find a wonderful adoptive home with loving parents who are emotionally and financially ready for a new baby. You can create an adoption plan with a Lifetime Adoption coordinator. You will view profiles of Lifetime families and choose the adoptive family that is the right fit for you and your baby. You can also decide how much contact you want once the adoption process is complete. You will even get to decide how things will go at the hospital.

When dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, you may find you have unexpected medical expenses. In the state of Washington, pregnant women who choose adoption can receive assistance with the prenatal hospital or medical expenses involved in the birth of the child and attorneys’ fees and court costs involved in the transfer of child custody. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will help you access these resources.

Are you struggling to raise a toddler or young child? We got a call from Kaira*, who was in an abusive relationship, and CPS was about to take custody of her son and place him in foster care. Having been raised in foster care herself, she did not want this for her son. She wanted a say in who he was placed with and wanted to know she could get updates on how he was doing. After talking with our adoption coordinator and a professional counselor, she decided on adoption. She found the perfect family for her son right in Seattle. Kaira is now working on improving her situation and has peace of mind when she gets updates on her son and sees how he is thriving in his adoptive family.

Lifetime has many families interested in adopting sibling sets, toddlers, and special needs children. Making that call can be difficult, but know that at Lifetime, you will always find a caring, non-judgmental adoption coordinator on the other end. She will answer all of your questions and provide information honestly.

Call or text Lifetime Adoption anytime, and we will be there for you.

An unexpected pregnancy can bring up many emotions and require some important decisions. A referral to a professional or peer counselor can be a very important resource. A professional counselor can guide you through your decision-making process.

Another resource at Lifetime Adoption is peer counseling. A peer counselor is a woman who has been through the adoption process and wants to help other women with their journey. Talking with another birth mother can be very helpful. She will listen to you and your story, share her what her adoption experience was, and offer advice.

Maternity Hospitals in Seattle

You may wonder how the process will work at the hospital when placing your baby for adoption. The good news is it will go just the way you want it to. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator helps you create a hospital plan. She will ask a lot of questions that you may not have thought of, such as:

  • Who would you like in the room when you go into labor?
  • Would you like to hold and feed your baby after the birth?
  • Do you want the adoptive parents to come to the hospital?
  • Who would you like to hold your baby first?
  • Will you go home before or after your baby is released?

A hospital plan will ensure that everything at the hospital goes as you would like. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will make sure adoptive parents and the hospital staff understand your wishes and follow them.

In the Seattle area, there are several hospitals with labor and delivery services:

Evergreen Health Family Maternity Center

Other Paths to Adoption in Seattle

Foster care may be an option for a parent who is struggling but may not feel adoption is the right choice for them. Sometimes if a baby is born with signs of exposure to substances, Seattle Child Protective Services may decide the baby should be placed in the foster care program. In both these situations, you will not be able to choose who your baby is placed with or if you will have any contact.

Relative or kinship adoption is another adoption option. In this case, a family member, who is usually blood-related to the child, can choose to adopt your child. Relative adoption can come with its own set of challenges. While this can be a great solution, sometimes a relative may feel this is temporary and may not understand that adoption is permanent. They will be this child’s parent forever.

Which kind of adoption is right for you and your child is your decision alone. These options will all be gone over by your Lifetime Adoption coordinator. She will make sure you have all the information you need to decide which adoption path is best for you and your child.

The Lifetime Adoption coordinators are experts at connecting birth mothers and adoptive families. If you are in the Seattle area and are considering adopting a newborn baby or child up to the age of six, contact Lifetime at 727-493-0933. For more information, you can also visit the Lifetime Adoption website for a free online adoption application.

Begin the Adoption Process

The adoption process can seem overwhelming but don’t worry. You don’t have to navigate this on your own. Your first step is to fill out our short online application. Applying is free and does not obligate you in any way.

A Lifetime Adoption coordinator will contact you once you are pre-approved and will explain our adoption program and answer all your questions. Your adoption coordinator will also gather additional information to create the best-individualized plan so that you can have a successful adoption. Your coordinator will guide you through every step needed to be taken.

Adoption Attorneys in Seattle

An adoption attorney is one important aspect of your adoption. Washington adoption laws can be complicated, so it is important that all the paperwork is filed correctly and all laws are followed. Your attorney will make sure all papers are filed with the court and a finalization hearing scheduled. Your adoption coordinator can refer you to a Seattle adoption attorney.

Home Study Services in Seattle

A completed home study is necessary when you choose to adopt. Your Lifetime adoption coordinator will be very happy to connect you with a Home Study Service provider in the Seattle area.

Background checks, financial verification, employment information, education hours, and a home visit are all part of your home study.

In Seattle, how does the home study process work? You will work with your home study provider, who will run a background check and will collect the following documents:

  • Financial and Employment Statements such as tax returns, profit and loss statements, and paystubs.
  • Medical Statements from your medical professionals confirming you are physically and mentally capable of parenting a child
  • You will provide three written references that verify you are suitable adoptive parents
  • Verification of your marital status

A home visit will be part of your home study. Your social worker will schedule a time to see your home and interview you. The home study is meant to establish that you have a safe and adequate home to raise a child in. Your views on marriage, parenting, and family will also be discussed. Everyone who lives in the home will be interviewed by your home study social worker. Then all of this information will be put into a report to be submitted to the court.

Finalization of Adoption at Court

Finalization of your adoption is your final step. This happens once your home study is complete, then you have been matched with a birth mother, and your baby has finally arrived.

Washington adoption law requires that the finalization of adoption happens once your home study is complete, you have brought the child home, and had a post-placement visit from a social worker. Then you will have a hearing at the court where the final decree of adoption will be issued.

Your Seattle adoption attorney will file all of the adoption paperwork at the district courthouse and set a date for the hearing. In Seattle, that will be at the King County Superior Courthouse.

Other Paths to Adoption

Seattle International Adoption Agencies

Every adoptive family has its own unique adoption path. Which path you choose is one of the most important decisions you will make. International adoption is one path you can take.

Choosing international leads to other decisions, such as which country you want to adopt from. There are many things to consider, for example, what is the political climate of the country? What are the adoption laws and customs of that country? Many factors will influence a family’s choice as to which country to choose to adopt from.

It is important to choose an agency that specializes in adoption in the country you are interested in. Be sure they have a proven track record of successful adoptions in your chosen country. The nations of Africa, China, and Eastern Europe are some of the more popular countries to adopt from. Here are some agencies that specialize in international adoption:

Foster Care Adoption

Another adoption option is adopting from the foster care system. In Seattle, you will reach out to the Seattle County Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services at 3701 Branch Center Road, Seattle, CA 95827. They will instruct you on the process of becoming a Resource Family with hopes to adopt.

To qualify to adopt in Seattle, you will need to be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Legally competent, and
  • Have an approved family assessment (pre-placement report, adoption home study, unified home study)

You can also view waiting children in the foster care system across the nation at AdoptUSKids. This project shows the children waiting and hopeful for adoption across the entire U.S.
