It’s entirely up to you to decide what type of contact you want with the adoptive family and your child. In open adoption, you and your child’s adoptive family can have some contact throughout the years. This can vary from letters and photos to visits once or twice a year.
You may wish to write a letter or send photos to your child, letting them know how you made this decision out of your love for them. This letter can be given to your child when he or she is old enough to understand.
It is important that the adoptive family have access to your medical records/history for your child’s medical reference in the future. You can pass on any information about yourself and your life to your child’s adoptive parents. Your child will know that this decision was made in order to give them the best future possible.
