I recently had the chance to chat with Micah and Emily, hopeful adoptive parents who live in Missouri. When considering adoption for your child, you have the opportunity to connect with hopeful adoptive parents before making your final decision.
Engaging in open conversations with them allows you to ask important questions, learn about their values, and gain insight into their parenting style. These discussions can help you envision what life might be like for your baby in their home, ensuring you feel confident in your choice. By getting to know the adoptive couple on a deeper level, you can determine whether they align with the hopes and dreams you have for your child’s future.
I asked Micah and Emily some fun questions that you won’t find in their adoption profile, and I learned that they’re a Christ-centered Catholic couple who are so excited to share their values of family and faith with a child. Together, they enjoy going on walks, traveling, cooking, and going on bike rides.
They have always wanted to have children, and feel that God is calling them to grow their family through adoption. Micah and Emily share, “The journey we have been through with pregnancy loss has strengthened our marriage and opened our hearts to the beautiful gift of adoption!”
1. What is your favorite holiday?
Our favorite holiday is Christmas! We get to spend time with both of our families. We always attend mass on Christmas Eve at our local church, which is decorated with huge Christmas trees, and listen to the choir singing Christmas songs.
At our family gatherings, we play lots of fun games. Everyone divides into teams and competes at different Christmas-themed games. We also play a game with everyone in the family to exchange gifts. It is great to spend time with all of our families. On Christmas morning, we spend time together at home, opening presents and eating breakfast together.
2. What is something you’re naturally talented with?
Micah has a natural talent for woodworking! He is very handy and can do almost anything in the woodshop. Micah built our kitchen cabinets, a porch swing for his parents, and a picnic table for our back patio! He really enjoys woodworking and can do it full-time now that he is self-employed as a carpenter.
Emily has a natural talent for baking. She loves to bake just about anything, but most especially chocolate chip cookies! She is always making cakes or cupcakes for family birthday parties and even has a cake decorating kit to make fun designs on cakes. It’s a tradition each year to make a cake decorated like an American flag for the 4th of July and a cake shaped like an Easter Bunny for Easter.

3. What is something from your childhood that you want to make sure your child gets to experience?
Spending time outside! We both grew up living on farms and got to spend lots of time outside. We spent time feeding chickens, working in the garden, and exploring the timber and creek, looking for arrowheads.
We now live in town but have a huge 3-acre yard with lots of room to ride bikes, play catch, or hide and seek with our kids. Both of our parents still live on farms, so we are excited to take our kids on visits to gather the eggs, feed chickens, and ride the tractor. We really value spending time outdoors and can’t wait to experience that with our kids!
4. What is your favorite thing to cook or eat?
Pizza! We love making homemade pizza together! We make a homemade pizza crust (a great recipe given to us from Micah’s mom!) and top it with homemade pizza sauce that Emily’s cans each year from tomatoes grown on her parent’s farm. We then top it with whatever toppings we like! Micah’s favorite is pepperoni and Emily’s favorite is mushrooms (which Micah thinks is gross!)
5. As parents, what is something specific you want to teach your child?
We want to teach our child about our faith! We are both very strong in our faith and feel that it is very important to share this with our child. Growing up, we both attended church weekly and participated in church activities.
We now attend church each week together, which is a big part of our holiday traditions, such as Easter and Christmas. Our faith has been very important in getting us through some tough times together, and we want to pass this along to our child!
