Pregnant and Considering Adoption in Maine
Finding out you are pregnant when it is not planned can be overwhelming and scary. You know you have to make some decisions, but you may not fully understand what your options actually are. You may ask family, the baby’s father, or friends, but they may not fully understand your options either. It is important you do have all the facts.
Find out what options are available to you from a Lifetime coordinator. She will listen to your story calmly and without judgment. She will also provide you with all the information you need to decide what to do. Just take the time to call, text, or fill out this short online form.
What is the Adoption Process in Maine?
If you are pregnant or currently parenting in Maine, you can reach out to Lifetime to find out more about the adoption process. Itβs so easy to start the process. Just call, text, or fill out our online form. You will talk, text, or email with an experienced, kind, and supportive coordinator.
You will be shown adoptive family profiles online, and your coordinator can send profiles she thinks would suit you and your baby. You can view families in Maine or in another state.
In addition, if you are currently pregnant, your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will help you create a hospital plan. This plan will detail things such as:
- Would you like the adoptive parents at the hospital when you go into labor?
- Who would you prefer to hold and feed the baby first?
- Are you OK with being in the maternity ward, or would you prefer a room in a different area of the hospital?
You will also have a legal representative. Your representative will explain all your rights and manage all of the legal proceedings for you.
If you are currently struggling to parent, there are Lifetime families open to adopting a toddler, sibling group, or older child. With a toddler or older child, a professional counselor, at no charge, can plan an adoption transition that will help the child adapt to the change.
Open Adoption in Maine
- What comes to mind as most important when looking for a family?
- What kind of home do you envision your child growing up in?
- How do you want things to go during labor, delivery, and after?
- Are there pregnancy-related expenses you are having a hard time meeting?
Placing your baby for adoption is very difficult. Just remember, with open adoption, you can know your baby is thriving with their adoptive family. Many birth parents develop close relationships with the adoptive family. We have one wonderful birth mother who became engaged and requested her daughter be able to come to the wedding. The adoptive parents were more than happy to oblige, and not only did they all attend, but the adoptive father actually walked the birth mother down the aisle.
