Starting the Adoption Process

So, how do you get your adoption dreams started? It’s really easy.  Just fill out our short online application. There is no application fee, and filling it out does not obligate you in any way. Lifetime will review your application, and once you are pre-approved, a coordinator will contact you to outline the entire adoption process. The Lifetime team will get you started creating your personal profile for birth mothers to view and will also provide referrals for your home study and your attorney. You will also be given access to our membership site and all the adoption education you need for a successful adoption.

Adoption Laws in Montana

Montana adoption laws can seem hard to navigate, but don’t be concerned. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will recommend an adoption attorney in Montana who will handle the legal aspects of the adoption.

In Montana, the timeline for legal documentation for adoption is as follows:

Consent to adoption cannot be executed until 72 hours after the birth.
Once consent is executed and parental rights are terminated, they cannot be revoked unless previous agreement allows it.

Like every other state, Montana has its own laws that must be followed before the finalization of the adoption. Montana adoption laws mandate that there must be an evaluation six months after the placement of the child. Every adoption is unique, so rely on your adoption attorney for the information and regulations regarding your particular adoption.

Montana Home Studies

A home study is a legal document required by every state and territory which presents proof that the adoptive parents have the ability to parent and care for a baby or child. Your Lifetime Adoption coordinator will recommend a qualified home study provider in Montana.

With a home study, be prepared to provide the following:

A check for any criminal convictions or abuse or neglect of a child, or incidents of domestic violence
Medical and social history along with current health status
Ability to financially support a child
Awareness of potential adoption issues, including matters relating to open, interracial, and special needs adoptions

There will be a post-placement visit at six months. Once this is completed, the adoption finalization can occur.
