Many women have shared that pregnancy makes them exhausted, achy, and uncomfortable. Exercise is a great way to assist you in feeling better. It also improves your health and the health of your baby. As your pregnancy progresses, you will probably need to adjust your normal workout routine. So, it’s a good idea to follow a pregnancy workout plan.
If you don’t have any health conditions, working out during your pregnancy is safe and great for your health. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a longtime “gym rat” or a couch potato before you got pregnant. Check with your OB doctor and ask if you’re fine to exercise, keeping in mind that you’ll need to adjust your workouts as your body goes through the changes of pregnancy.
If you didn’t exercise before your pregnancy, you should be able to start as long as you don’t have a health condition. One example of a condition that might prevent you from working out is a back problem, which could make exercise difficult or dangerous.
The Benefits to Pre-Natal Exercise
Exercise gives you lots of benefits during pregnancy, as you might not feel quite as good as usual. Working out during your pregnancy can bring your energy up, help you feel better, and ease some of the minor symptoms of pregnancy. Prenatal exercise also has these benefits:
- Helps you avoid gaining more weight than you need to. Prenatal exercise can help prevent you from gaining too much weight. And, it even helps your body get in shape for delivery. After you deliver, you’ll have fewer pounds to lose to get you back into your pre-pregnancy shape.
- Keeps your body fit. Exercise is great for your heart and for general well-being. Keeping up with your workouts (even if it’s just going for a walk) can prevent constipation.
- Allows you to retain your muscle tone. Exercise will help maintain some of your body tone and muscle tone. Also, working out increases your blood flow by keeping fresh blood circulating throughout your body. This improved muscle tone may also lead to an easier labor and delivery. A third advantage is the possibility of less back aches you gain weight during your pregnancy.
- Improves your mood. Pregnancy leaves many feeling exhausted; exercise can help. It’s smart to find an exercise you enjoy, and then do it as often as you can. Working out helps your body release endorphins. These endorphins will increase your energy, allow you to sleep more at night, and make you feel better overall.
