Some birth grandparents are supportive and involved in the adoption plan. In fact, some even make the first phone calls to an adoption professional to get help for their child. Others don’t understand adoption and may even try to change your mind.

It’s important to know that even if you are very young, birth grandparents typically have no rights in adoption by law. They can’t force you to parent your baby or to choose adoption, no matter how young you are. They can definitely make it difficult and pressure you, but remember it is your decision. Many women have created a written adoption or parenting plan to present to their parents in difficult family situations.

Call Lifetime if you have any questions regarding your parents (or questions on any topic!) We’re here to listen and assist you. Here is our number that’s staffed 24/7: 1-800-923-6784.
