As you think about an adoption plan for your baby, you’re given the chance to build a real, personal connection with hopeful adoptive families before any decisions are made. This is a central part of the adoption process, one that keeps you in control, with plenty of room to learn, reflect, and ask questions at your own pace. Open, honest conversations with adoptive parents let you explore anything that matters to you: what they believe in, how they spend their everyday moments, and the kind of home they hope to create. It’s your chance to truly get to know them: their family rhythms, the traditions they cherish, what makes them laugh, and what they hold most dear.
I asked Evan and Rachel some fun questions that you won’t find in their adoption profile, and I learned just how much heart and intention they bring to everyday family life. With Rachel’s compassionate, organized nature as a natural host and caregiver, and Evan’s dependable, patient humor as the dad who’s always fully present, they’ve built a home centered on family dinners, easy mornings, and simple adventures together. Shaped by their own seasons of waiting and hope, they’re ready to raise a child who knows they’re deeply loved, capable, and never alone.
1. What is something from your childhood that you want to make sure your child gets to experience?

Evan: One of my favorite parts of growing up was having a dad who was truly present in my life. Whether he was coaching or playing baseball and soccer with me, cheering me on, or simply taking an interest in the things I loved, I always knew I had his support. Those moments made me feel seen, encouraged, and deeply loved.
That is something I hope to pass on to our child. I can’t wait to read bedtime stories, watch favorite movies together, play catch in the backyard, cheer from the sidelines, and discover the hobbies and passions that make them unique. Whether they love sports, music, art, science, or something completely unexpected, I want them to know I’ll be there to support them, encourage them, and celebrate their talents every step of the way. More than any specific activity, I hope our child grows up knowing their dad is genuinely interested in their life and excited to create lasting memories with them.
2. What would a perfect day look like to you?
Our perfect day would be simple and full of quality time together. We’d start slowly by making breakfast as a family, enjoying coffee while reading books together on the couch, and taking our time before heading out on an adventure. Whether it’s exploring a park, visiting a museum, spending the afternoon at a pool, or packing a picnic lunch, we love making memories together.
We’d end the day grilling dinner, playing games, laughing around the table, and winding down with bedtime stories and prayers. Those ordinary moments are the ones we believe become the most treasured memories.

3. What are three words your friends would use to describe each of you?

Rachel genuinely enjoys caring for others and helping people feel seen and supported. She also loves planning and creating a welcoming home where family and friends can gather. Whether it’s hosting loved ones, organizing a celebration, or simply sharing a meal together, she finds joy in making meaningful memories.
Evan: Dependable, patient, and funny.
Evan is the steady presence everyone can count on. He approaches people with kindness and patience, and his great sense of humor keeps everyone laughing. Whether he’s helping a friend with a project, spending time with family, or making someone smile with a well-timed joke, he brings a calm, caring spirit wherever he goes.
4. Is adoption already a part of your family?
While adoption isn’t already part of our immediate family, it has become a deeply meaningful part of our story. Our journey to adoption has strengthened our faith, deepened our appreciation for family, and prepared our hearts to become parents.
We’ve spent this season learning, growing, and surrounding ourselves with resources and relationships that will help us support our future child throughout every stage of life. We believe adoption is something to be celebrated, and we’re committed to creating a home where our child’s story is always honored, their questions are welcomed, and they know they are deeply loved by us and by so many others.
5. As parents, what is something specific you want to teach your child?
One of the most important qualities we hope to teach our child is resilience. Life is filled with both joyful moments and challenging seasons, and we want them to know that difficult experiences don’t define who they are, but they help shape them into stronger, more compassionate people.
We hope to teach our child to face challenges with courage, hard work, ask for help when needed, and never lose hope when something feels impossible. We believe that perseverance isn’t about never struggling; it’s about continuing to move forward, even when the path isn’t easy.
Our own journey has taught us the value of resilience. We’ve experienced seasons that tested our faith, patience, and hope, and we’ve learned that some of life’s greatest blessings are worth waiting and persevering for. Those experiences have shaped the kind of parents we are: parents who encourage, support, and remind our child that they never have to face life’s ups and downs alone.
Above all, we want our child to grow up knowing they are deeply loved, incredibly capable, and stronger than they realize. We will always be by their side, cheering them on as they pursue their dreams with confidence, determination, and the knowledge that they are never alone.
