Letter from a Birthmother

letter from a birth mother
Dear Birth Mother,

My name is Adriana, and I am Avery’s birth mother. I knew when I became pregnant with Avery that I wanted to give her a life that I could not provide for her. I no longer had the support of Avery’s birth father, and I was working full-time while caring for my two young children and my elderly grandmother.

I imagined Avery growing up with two loving parents in a nice home. I wanted to see her thrive in an environment full of love and full of opportunities such as a great education and family vacations. I also hoped I would meet a couple interested in an open adoption. I wasn’t sure at the time of my pregnancy whether or not I wanted to maintain a relationship with Avery’s parents, but I didn’t want to rule it out.

When I met Brad and Cassie for the first time, I knew they would be the perfect parents for Avery. They were so kind, easy-going, and could offer everything I knew Avery deserved in life. I was happy to know Avery would have a great family support system (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and little cousins). It was also important to me that Brad and Cassie would raise Avery in a Christian home.

They were supportive of me throughout my pregnancy, and I was glad they were willing to keep in touch after Avery’s birth. There were some days that were more difficult than others in the beginning. It helped that Brad and Cassie were always there for me, willing to send new pictures of Avery or just update me on how she was doing. Our relationship is a valuable part of my life now, and we recently introduced Avery to her biological brother and sister. I’m so happy that Avery is thriving in her family, and I know she will adore a new little brother or sister! Every day I am thankful that God brought us all together, and I know another baby will be blessed to be a part of this family.

Sincerely,

Avery’s Birth Mother
