Adoption Q&A: What Do I Do When I Go Into Labor?

pregnant woman doing breathing exercisesQuestion: My boyfriend and I are planning to place our baby for adoption right after birth. We want everything organized so that when I go into labor, we’re as ready as we can be. So, we were wondering, what do we do once I go into labor?

Answer: Let your adoption professional know when your labor starts and when you leave for the hospital or when you get there. Your adoption professional will send paperwork to the hospital staff to ensure they have your hospital preferences and desires available and your wishes are followed.

Give the labor nurse your adoption professional’s phone number and ask her to call them. Your adoption professional can notify the adoptive parents you chose that you are in labor, or you may want to call them yourself.
