Pregnant and Considering Adoption in Arizona
Your pregnancy test shows a positive result and now your emotions are overwhelming you. Furthermore, you may want to share your news with family, friends, and the baby’s father. If so, you need to be prepared for a wide range of opinions and advice. This can make you feel even more anxious and confused.
Step back for a minute and contact a Lifetime Adoption coordinator. She’ll be a kind and non-judgmental voice who can help you consider all the pros and cons of each of your options. You can call, text, or fill out our contact formto get started. If you like, she’ll put you in touch with a professional or peer counselor.
What is the Adoption Process in Arizona?
For over 35 years, Lifetime Adoption has been guiding pregnant women in Arizona through the adoption process. Just call, text, or fill out our contact form and a coordinator will talk to you about your wishes and provide you with any resources and support you need.
Normally we have you start by reviewing adoptive family profiles and choosing the family you think is right for your baby. You may want a family from Arizona or from another state. Then decide how much contact you’d like with the family in the future.
Also included is help with a hospital plan. Your plan will outline who will be in the delivery room, who will hold the baby first, and other details. You will have an attorney, at no cost to you, who will make sure that your rights are protected and will take care of all the paperwork and court filings.
If you have a toddler or older child you need to place for adoption, a coordinator can help with a plan to make the adoption transition healthy for you, your child, and the adoptive family. Your coordinator will also help you work with the adoptive parents to create a post-adoption contact agreement that everyone feels is best.
Open Adoption in Arizona
- Would you like to view the adoptive parent’s profiles and choose the adoptive family or have a coordinator choose for you?
- What kind of contact would you like with the family after the adoption is final?
- How would you like things to go at the hospital during labor, delivery, and after?
- Would you like the adoptive parents to go to prenatal doctor appointments with you?
- Are you in need of help with pregnancy-related expenses?
If you don’t feel parenting your child is the right thing for you and your baby, there is no more loving and brave choice than placing your child for adoption. There is a loving family for every child and they are ready and excited to grow their family through adoption. Modern, open adoption, means not having to say goodbye to your child forever. You can receive pictures, updates, and even visits. Many of our birth mothers have great relationships with the adoptive families. Recently, one of our amazing birth mothers was getting married, and she asked if her daughter could be there. Not only was she there, but the adoptive parents were there as well, and the adoptive father even walked the bride down the aisle.

Adoption Laws in Arizona
In Arizona, the timeline for legal documentation for adoption are as follows:
- In general, the expectant or birth mother signs papers terminating her parental rights 72 hours after the birth. A birth father may surrender his parental rights by signing a Waiver of Notice or Denial of Paternity at any time, before or after the child’s birth. The adoption is irrevocable upon signing.
- In addition, a home study is required and a judge will review the home study and other documentation and then finalize the adoption by issuing a final decree of adoption.
Every adoption is unique. There are different legal requirements depending on the individual facts of each adoption. Your adoption attorney will ensure your adoption goes smoothly and all legal aspects are in place.
